Ronald L. Van Meter Jr.

Ronald L. “Ronnie” Van Meter, Jr., 37, Hancock, Md., died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born September 4, 1975, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Ronald L. Van Meter Sr. and Bonnie J. Crusan Van Meter of Hancock, and sonin law of Eddie and Sylvia Zimmerman Moats.

He was a 1993 graduate of Hancock High School.

He was employed with U.S. Silica, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., as a control-room operator.

He was a lieutenant with Hancock Volunteer Fire Co., where he was a member for 20 years.

He was a member of the Washington County Fire Police and was an EMT with Hancock Rescue Squad.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Webster B. Harrison Post #26, Hancock, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is also survived by his wife, Chera L. Moats Van Meter, whom he married July 10, 1993, at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Hancock; one son, Aaron J. Van Meter, and fiancĂ©e’ Tiffany Diehl, at home; one daughter, Allyson B. Van Meter, at home; two brothers: James R. Van Meter and Stephen E. Van Meter, both of Hancock; one grandson, Hunter G. Diehl.

He was preceded in death by one son, Hunter B. Van Meter.

Service will be held Friday April 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Hancock Assembly of God Church, 431 N. PA. Avenue, Hancock, Md., and at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock, on Friday 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials in his memory may be made to the Hancock Volunteer Fire Co., Fulton Street, Hancock, MD 21750
