EASTER SERVICES

Easter Sunrise Service Amaranth Church of the Brethren; 2709 McKees Gap Road, Warfordsburg, will have Easter sunrise service March 31, at 7 a.m., followed with breakfast. Vistors are invited to come out and fellowship one with another. Please call 814-447-5639 for more information.

Easter Services Resurrection Sunday services will be held at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren. Sunrise services will be at 7 a.m. with Pastor Mac Miller bringing the message, followed by a fellowship breakfast at about 8:15 a.m. Sunday School will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship service at 10:30 a.m., with a cantata presentation by the choir entitled, “No More Night.” The pastors and congregation extend a welcome.

Sunrise Service Burnt Cabins Bible Church will hold a sunrise service Easter morning at 6:30 p.m. The service will be followed by a fellowship breakfast and the regular schedule of Sunday School at 9 a.m. and morning worship at 10 a.m. Pastor Bob Benson and the church congregation invite everyone in the Burnt Cabins area to join them for this special day of services.

Sunrise Services Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, invites all to sunrise services Easter morning, March 31, at 7 a.m. Breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

Good Friday Services Good Friday Penebrae services will be held at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hollow Road, Hancock, at 7 p.m.

Easter Services Easter services will be held at Antioch Christian Church March 24, at 8 a.m. The church welcomes everyone.

Easter Services Easter services at Knobsville Church of the Brethren will be held March 31, with early service at 7:30 a.m., followed by a light breakfast; Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and worship/resurrection celebration at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Life Celebration Party A life celebration party will be held at My Father’s House Ministries, 1650 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. This special celebration will be Good Friday, March 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For the children there will be a petting zoo, crafts, snacks and a lesson on the resurrection of Christ. Also for teens and adults there will be a time of fellowship, worship and a short lesson. All are welcome.

River Oaks Helpline A Christian crisis counseling/prayer phone line is now available. Caring and compassionate Christian volunteers are available from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily to listen, pray with you and help to find solutions for the challenges you are facing. Spring Revival Amaranth Church of the Brethren, 2709 Mckee’s Gap Road, Warfordsburg, will hold spring revival meetings with Bro. Christian Elliott. The meetings will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, through Saturday, April 13, along with Sunday morning worship on April 14 at 10:30 a.m., followed with lunch. RECREATION

Game Night Game night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on April 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are welcome to come and join in the games. There are card games (hand and foot, SKIP-BO, Phase 10 and 31) dominos (regular or Mexican), Scrabble or play the shuffleboard. All are welcome to bring a game that you would like to play. Mic Night Mic Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center April 13, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Kitchen opens at 4 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Donation is a $1. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 717-294-6020.

Easter Egg Hunt McConnellsburg Lions Club will host its annual Easter egg hunt for youths 12 and under at the Lions Community Park Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m. There will be different age groups, with prizes for each group.

Easter Egg Hunt An Easter egg hunt will be held March 30 at 2 p.m., at Buck Valley Park for ages 1-0 with raffles and prizes.

Easter Event Better Days Animal League invites all to join us for the second annual Easter event at the BDAL thrift store located at 232 Lincoln Way West Saturday, March 30. Activities include an Easter egg hunt at 10:30 a.m. (12 years and under); pictures with Easter Bunny from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children and pets; CC funnel cakes; tailgate auction at 11 a.m.; golden egg door prizes (adults). Bi-Valley Softball Registration Bi-Valley softball registration for girls in grades K-8, will be held Thursday, March 28, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, April 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday, April 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends building. Call for other registration arrangements, these are the last scheduled dates planned. Looking to roster 1-2 more girls for the 12U and 14U teams that play in CSL. Girls over 12 years old will have to schedule the 14U team and not the local summer league. Registration fee is $25 for the local summer league (ages 12 and under). Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Card Party An old-fashioned free card party will be held Saturday, March 30, starting at 6 p.m., in the alumni community building. Everyone is invited to attend and asked to bring a covered dish that everyone can enjoy. The museums will be open for all to enjoy. All ages are invited to come and listen, dance, eat and enjoy a night out. Easter Egg Hunt Forbes Road Lions Club Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 30, weather conditions permitting. In case of inclement weather or muddy grounds, the event will take place in Forbes Road High School gym. Eggs, candy and special prizes for toddlers thru 12 years old. Raffle tickets are now on sale to support the egg hunt and other Lions Club projects.

VFW Election The annual election of officers for VFW Post 655 will take place at the regular meeting on April 4, at 6 p.m. at the FOVA. VFW post members are urged to attend.

Do You Need Emergency Food Assistance The Fulton County Food Basket is a nonprofit human service agency providing food on an emergency basis to those in need in Fulton County. As the lead agency for emergency food assistance, the mission is to provide high quality and nutritious food to those who are in need within Fulton County. The Food Basket is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located in the basement of the McConnellsburg Senior Center on Woodside Drive. Community Garden Each spring Fulton County Food Basket sponsors the Community Gardening Program providing garden plots, seeds, fertilizer and plants with the assistance of other local business and organizations to those who are interested in growing their own produce and may not have the means to obtain the necessary materials needed to do so. FR Registration Forbes Road Elementary will hold its annual Red Bird and kindergarten registration April 2, 3 and 4. Students must be 4 years old on or before the first day of school in order to register for Red Birds. Students must be 5 years old before September 1 in order to register for kindergarten. Hunter-Trapper Education Course Fulton County Hunter- Trapper Education course will be offered Saturday, March 30, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Click on education/hunter education class schedule. Class is limited to 55 students. Bring a bag lunch Saturday. Food Health & Safety Course McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a free Food Health & Safety Course Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 9 a.m. to noon in the alumni community building. Teen Art Contest Fulton County Library Teen Advisory Board will sponsor a teen art contest. Entries will be accepted Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg Library. Entry forms and rules can be obtained at the library or on its Web site.

Homebuyer Workship Christian Social Sservices of Fulton County (CSS) announces the first homebuyer workshop program coming to Fulton County. CSS is partnering with PathStone Home Ownership Program to bring this here to Fulton County. The first workshop is scheduled to be at the CSS office in McConnellsburg Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is aimed for famileis with low and moderate income who have an interest in home ownership. Earth Day Celebration An Earth Day celebration will be held at the Fulton County Library by the teen advisory board Saturday, April 20, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Something to do for everyone including games, face painting, gardening planters, bluebird boxes and other crafts made from recyclables. Presentations by the county 4-H Robotics Club, Game Commission, Master Gardeners and others. Rain or shine.

Earth Day Spring Cleanup The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park will hold an Earth Day spring cleanup. Spring into action April 27, 2013, as Earth Day is celebrated at Cowans Gap State Park. This is a volunteer workday that will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to meet at Pavilion #1. Volunteer projects will include litter removal, fence repair, painting/staining, trail work, Visitor Center cleanup, picnic table assembly and more. All tools and materials will be provided by the park. Please preregister by April 22 by calling the park office at 717-485-3948.

Historical Society Dinner Mark calendars for the Fulton County Historical Society’s annual dinner and meeting April 20, 2013, at 6 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall. The dinner and meeting will be followed with entertainment by Matthew Dodd. Cost is $15 per person. The era for this show is the Civil War. Each show features its own character with his own accent and personality. Make reservations no later than April 12, 2013, either by mailing the count and money to Fulton County Historical Society, PO Box 115, McConnellsburg, PA 17233, or with Monica Seville at the county treasurer’s office.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Nutrition Awareness Program A community-based nutrition education program in collaboration with Penn State which provides nutrition education through monthly and individual classes is offered to help those interested in nutrition and safe food practices. In addition to food nutrition and food safety, budgeting, label reading, shopping tours, recipes, stretching of the food dollar, crafts and planting are addressed. Tickets are $9 for adults and $4.50 for children. Come join friends and neighbors for a pleasant gathering that benefits the Historical Society Museum.

Ham/Chicken Potpie Dinner A ham or chicken potpie dinner will be served at Shade Gap Fire Co. Auxiliary building, Sunday, April 7, at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 4-12 and under age 4 is free. Benefits Shade Gap Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Hoagie Sale St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery, will hold a hoagie sale Saturday, April 13. Lunch will be served at the schoolhouse across from the church and madeto order hoagies will be served, along with homemade soup and pies. MEETINGS

Scout Meeting Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the VFW, 518 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age. Cemetery Assoc. Meeting Asbury Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting Tuesday, April 2, at 6 p.m., at the home of Avon and Tressa Deshong, Harrisonville. The annual cleanup date for the cemetery will be Tuesday, April 9, at 5 p.m. Raindate is Wednesday, April 10.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

PASR Meeting Fulton County PASR will hold a spring meeting Monday, April 22, at Needmore Bible Church. The business meeting and registration will start at 10:30 a.m., followed with a noon meal. The purpose of the business meeting is to help keep retirees informed so they can better enjoy their retirement. Tom Svirsko, region legislative chair, will update all concerning the legislator and pension system. All those receiving a pension from the state are invited to attend the 1 p.m. meeting. Your pension may be in danger. Reservations are needed for those attending the meal. Cost is $10. Cemetery Assoc. Meeting Knobsville United Methodist Church Cemetery Association will meet Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the home of Donald Divens.

Wells Tannery Post Office Meeting A public meeting regarding the future of the Wells Tannery Post Office will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m., at Wells Tannery Community Building. Both box holders and patrons receiving rural route delivery are urged to return their surveys and attend this important meeting.

BINGO

Bingo A Longaberger and Vera Bradley bingo to benefit the ARC of Franklin and Fulton counties will be held Sunday, April 7, at Chambersburg VFW on South Fourth Street. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo starts at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $25 and includes lunch and 28 games. To purchase tickets call 264-4390.

Bingo Shade Gap Fire Co. will hold bingo at the Shade Gap Ladies Auxiliary building every Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 6:30 p.m.
