Mother Nature had the upper hand over the weekend, forcing several tracks to cancel or postpone weekend racing events.
Just about every possible kind of precipitation came out of the sky on Saturday to force Port Royal Speedway and Lincoln Speedway to cancel their racing programs. It was to be the Port’s first event of the season. They have moved their start time to 5 p.m. for the next two Saturday night shows.
Hagerstown Speedway actually pulled the plug early for its weekend. The track canceled for the weekend on Friday. They have rescheduled everything for this coming weekend, including a community yard sale Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a test and tune on the race track for all types of cars. The track will then begin competitive action Sunday with the rescheduled Brawl in the Fall from last October. The Late Models, 410 Sprints, Modifieds and 358 Sprints are on the Sunday afternoon racing program.
Selinsgrove Speedway was able to get a part of its Race of Champions Modified weekend complete as the track did run Friday night when Duane Howard won the 25-lap RoC 358 Modified win for the second year in a row. Howard defeated Ryan Godown, Larry Wight, Billy Decker and Bobby Varin. Saturday’s big block modified RoC was rained out and not rescheduled.
When the Late Models take to the track this Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, fans will be treated to double file restarts for features only. The track made the change for the division and, according to track officials, got an almost unanimous thumbs up from teams interviewed.
Williams Grove Speedway is slated to open this Friday night with 410 and 358 sprints beginning at 7:30 p.m.
