Virginia P. Gordon Big Cove Tannery, 89

Virginia Pearl Gordon, 89, Big Cove Tannery, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center Hagerstown, Md.

Born April 7, 1923, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Roy Theodore and Lola Estella Stewart Coffman and the widow of Henry R. Gordon, who died November 11, 1991.

She was a 1941 graduate of Hancock High School.

She was retired from PennDOT as a manager at the I- 70 Welcome Center, Warfordsburg, Pa.

She was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Carolyn V. Hollenshead and husband Frank, of Needmore; Sara Jean Landers and husband Harry of Antonito, Colo.; four sons: Ross H. Gordon and wife Shirley of Needmore; Roy W. Gordon and Robert L. Gordon, both of Big Cove Tannery; David Steven Gordon of Warfordsburg; 15 grandchildren; 28 greatgrandchildren; 13 step-greatgrandchildren; and 11 greatgreat grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Roy James Gordon, John David Hollenshead and Monica Elaine Gordon; two sisters: Lola Grace Huth, Dorothy Lee Legge; and nine brothers: Roy Theodore, Robert Luther, Raymond Edward, Roy Francis, Harry Lester, Clarence Hunter, Walter Michael, Carl (Todd) Curtis and Joseph Donald Coffman.

Services were held Monday, March 18, at 11 a.m., at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery. Rev. Dan Porterfield officiated. Burial was in Damascus Cemetery.

Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements.
