Census Figures: Philly’s Population Keeps Growing
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – It seems like more people are loving the City of Brotherly Love.
New Census figures released Thursday show that Philadelphia gained 9,040 residents last year. That's less than one percent of the city's total population, but Mayor Michael Nutter says it represents a promising trend.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the city has now had six consecutive years of growth. The population now stands at 1,547,607.
The city's population peaked at more than 2 million people in 1950, but then began a 50-year decline.
