The Southern Fulton Lady Indians fell short in achieving their goal of clinching a third-consecutive District 5-A championship title.

Saturday evening at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown, the Indians were pitted against Conemaugh Township. With three starting players averaging in double digits consistently throughout the season, Conemaugh didn’t disappoint as four players scored between 10 and 15 points.

Meanwhile, the number three seeded Lady Indians had three players consistently finding the net. Macey Hollenshead paced Southern Fulton with 14 points, four assists and four steals, while teammate Taelor Morton followed with 11 points. Ashley Roman was the lone member of the Indians squad to rack up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Indians finished out the day making only 17-of-56 shots from the floor, which equaled a dismal 30.3 percent. Turnovers were also reportedly a big factor during the March 2 title match. The Indians committed a total of 17 turnovers, which included 10 in the first 10 minutes.

Even though the Lady Indians didn’t win the District 5-A title, Southern Fulton will be advancing to play in the state PIAA Class A tournament. The Indians are scheduled to play Juniata Valley this Saturday.
