Truck Strikes Utility Pole

A 2003 Ford Ranger became disabled after crashing into a utility pole along Route 1003 in Ayr Township on Monday, March 4.

According to state police reports, 50-year- old Mc- Connellsburg resident Leslie E. Wilson was travelling westbound at 1: 50 p. m. when the accident occurred. The middle of the truck’s passenger’s side struck the pole. Wilson was not wearing a seat belt but was not injured.

State police said Wilson will be charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Crime, Patrol Report Released

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg issued a crime and patrol activity report for the month of February, during which a total of 55 criminal offenses were reported to investigators. Police said 50 of those offenses were founded, and 29 arrests were made. In addition, troopers responded to 31 accidents, four hit-and-run crashes and two drivingunder the-influence-related accidents. Seven individuals were injured during those accidents. Police also issued 278 traffic citations, 158 written warnings, five seat-belt citations, four child seat citations and three driving-under-the-influence citations.

Harrisonville Man Injured

A Harrisonville suffered major injuries during a single vehicle accident along Lincoln Highway over the weekend.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg reported Jason Paul Mellott was transported to Altoona Hospital via Medevac following the 12:51 a.m. accident in Licking Creek Township. He was not wearing a seat belt, said police, who alleged the crash was linked to driving under the influence.

Mellott, 33, lost control of his westbound 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier while he was passing a vehicle at a “high rate of speed.” The car slid sideways through the intersection of Patterson Run Road, struck an embankment and overturned.

Police added their investigation into the Saturday, March 2, accident continues.

Warfordsburg Man Arrested For DUI

A 25-year-old Warfordsburg area man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop along Timber Ridge Road.

According to state police, James Keith Bradley was stopped at 11:28 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, just west of the intersection of Great Cove Road. Police said Bradley was pulled over after being observed weaving on the Belfast Township roadway.

Ladder Stolen

An aluminum ladder was stolen from 267 Valley View Drive, McConnellsburg, between 9 p.m. on February 22 and 8 a.m. on February 23. Victim in the case is a 31-year-old McConnellsburg man. Anyone having additional information pertinent to this theft should contact state police Trooper Sprague at 717- 485-3131.

Two Cited For Harassment

Two McConnellsburg woman will be cited for harassment after an argument turned physical. State police reported that on Thursday, February 28, Sherry Renee Black, 43, and 27-year-old Serena Marie Black were involved in an alleged physical confrontation at the intersection of Second Street and Lincoln Way in Mc- Connellsburg Borough. Charges in the 1:15 p.m. incident will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Man Accused Of Harassment

Twenty-seven-year-old Mc- Connellsburg resident Stephen Thomas Guyer has been charged with harassment by state police in connection with a physical altercation. Guyer allegedly shoved a 26-year-old Waynesboro, Pa., man and struck him in the eye at 12:53 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Charges have been filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Car Rear-Ended

A southbound 2007 Ford Focus was rear-ended while attempting to make a lefthand turn into the Giant Food Store parking lot on Friday, March 1.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said that at 4:35 p.m. Kellie A. Gress, 28, of Harrisonville, slowed to make a left-hand turn when her car was rear-ended by a southbound 2001 Dodge Ram driven by Ralph L. Bivens, 65, of Big Cove Tannery. The impact pushed Gress’ car into the oncoming lane.

Both Gress and Bivens were wearing seat belts. Gress was transported to Fulton County Medical Center via McConnellsburg ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

Bivens will be cited by state police for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Identity Theft Repor ted

Debit-card information belonging to a 42-year-old McConnellsburg man was used to make purchases between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 23. Anyone having further information linked to this case should contact state police Trooper Barnett at 717-485- 3131.

Needmore Man Charged In Theft

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg have made an arrest in the November 6, 2012, theft of a Cuddyback trail camera from an area along Pigeon Cove Road. Police reported James Herman Ericson III, 24, of Needmore, is being charged with theft by unlawful taking and criminal trespassing through the office of Magisterial District Judge Tamela Bard. Ericson was allegedly seen with the stolen trail camera on the date of the theft.

Several Involved In Crash Outside Walmart

Several Fulton County residents were involved in a crash along Route 30 in front of the Bedford Walmart, Pennsylvania State Police in Bedford said.

State police reported that Brian K. Mellott, 30, of Warfordsburg was travelling eastbound through Snake Spring Township at 2:40 p.m. on February 18 when a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Wilmer Lashley, 83, of Breezewood turned into the path of Mellott’s 1993 Chevrolet Beretta.

Following impact, Lashley’s vehicle spun clockwise into a 2002 Chevrolet Impala driven by 60-year-old Wells Tannery resident Bonnie L. Aikey. Police noted nobody was injured during the threevehicle accident.

Car Strikes Tree

A Mount Union man escaped injury during a singlevehicle accident along Aughwick Road on Tuesday, February 26.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg reported Wayne R. Ripple was travelling southbound when he lost control of his 2005 Ford Mustang on the slush-covered roadway. The 45-yearold man’s car went off the roadway and spun into a tree at 8:15 p.m.

Ripple was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred just south of the intersection of Forbes Road.

Car, Snowplow Collide

A Bedford, Pa., man will be charged with limitations on overtaking on the left following a February 27 collision with a snowplow along Lincoln Highway.

According to state police, Matthew Jerod Myers, 30, of Bedford, attempted to pass a 2010 Mack plow truck driven by Rodney A. Hendershot, 42, of McConnellsburg. The truck was making a lefthand turn into a parking lot when the collision occurred.

Myers’ disabled 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback suffered front-end damage as well as heavy damage to the right side. The plow truck had minor damage to its front left corner and plow. Myers and Hendershot were both wearing seat belts when the crash occurred at 9:27 a.m. in Licking Creek Township.

Teen Found With Tobacco

A 16-year-old boy attending Southern Fulton High School was found in possession of tobacco on Friday, February 22, at 10 a. m. Charges will be filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge Tamela Bard.

Car Disabled

A 2008 Toyota Prius became disabled on Tuesday, February 26, when it slid into an embankment and rolled over along the westbound lanes of Interstate 70.

State police said Angela R. Furrer, 23, of Pittsburgh, was driving too fast for the wet roadway conditions in Brush Creek Township. She was wearing a seat belt but suffered minor injuries. Furrer was transported to UPMC Bedford Memorial by Hancock ambulance with minor injuries following the 8:27 p.m. accident.

She will be charged with driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds.

Driver Charged In Accident

A Meadville, Pa., woman faces charges of driving on roadways laned for traffic after a single-vehicle accident along the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, state police said.

Thirty-five-year-old Rachel H. Garza lost control of her 2006 Ford Freestyle, which travelled onto the northern berm and struck an embankment on Tuesday, February 26. The vehicle was disabled due to damage to the right front tire and was removed from the scene in Brush Creek Township by Lucky 13 Towing.

Garza and her passenger, Derek D. Li, 35, also of Meadville, were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the 4:13 p.m. crash.

Copper Wire Stolen

Approximately 1,500 feet of copper wire was stolen from a Tower Road, Todd Township, property belonging to Century Link Business of Chambersburg. The theft occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, February 25. Anyone having further information linked to this incident should contact state police Trooper Bartlett at 717-485- 3131.

Rock Leads To Vehicle Fire

A rock along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 was linked to damaging a vehicle’s oil pan and a subsequent rear vehicle fire on Monday, February 25.

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said Dean E. Philips, 54, of Clinton, Ohio, struck the rock while travelling through Brush Creek Township in a 2013 GMC Envoy. The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the undercarriage as a result. State police were assisted on the scene by Town Hill Towing.
