Woodland Owners Of Southern Alleghenies Scholarship Available
High school seniors and college students planning to major in the field of forest resources can apply for a $500 scholarship through the Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies (WOSA). This is the seventh consecutive year that WOSA is offering a scholarship.
Established in 1996, WOSA’s focus has been to educate its members and the public in Bedford and Fulton counties on the value and methods of stewardship practices on private woodlands to ensure the sustainability of Pennsylvania’s forests, 70 percent of which are privately owned.
“We are pleased that we have been able to provide a scholarship to several students over the past seven years,” says WOSA President Don Oaks. Oaks is a Society of American Foresters certified forester and a member of the Association of Consulting Foresters.
The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, quality of the written essay and career goals consistent with forest stewardship. Applications and complete details are available at WOSA’s Web site http://www.orgsites.com/pa/ wosa
The deadline to submit applications is April 12. Recipients will be notified by mail before June. The scholarship money will be sent directly to the college. Applications should be mailed to Laura Jackson, 8621 Black Valley Road, Everett, PA 15537. For more information, call 814- 652-9268.
