John M. Stuard Sr. Burghill, 73
The Honorable John M. Stuard Sr., 73, Burghill, died at 10:24 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren following a sudden illness.
He was born March 26, 1939, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Carl M. Stuard and Violet R. Richards Stuard.
He graduated from Sharon High School in 1957 and continued his education receiving his bachelor’s degree from Thiel College. From there he taught at Southern Fulton High School. On August 4, 1962, he married his wife, Linda Breakall Stuard, recently sharing their 50th wedding anniversary. He went on to earn his law degree from the University of Kentucky’s law school in 1965.
His work in the legal field started with serving as a solicitor for Neweton Falls and the Village of Orangeville. He also served as a criminal defense attorney as well as a prosecutor for the City of Warren. In 1983 he was appointed the first judge at the Central District Court in Cortland and later to the Common Pleas bench of Trumbull County.
He is survived by his wife, at home; a daughter, Elizabeth (Mark) Nicopolis of New Hill, N.C.; a son, John M. Stuard Jr., Brookfield; three grandchildren: Margaret Nicopolis of New Hill, N.C., Mason and Mary Stuard, who were raised in the loving care of their grandparents in the family home, of Burghill; a brother, Charles (Betty) Stuard, Burgill; two sisters Linda Hodgson of Burghill and Ruth Ann Newfield of Tennessee; a niece, Rebecca ( Joseph) Clark; and nephews Todd A. (Lisa) Hodgson, Ben Hodgson, Dylan Stuard and Bronwyn Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a halfbrother, Edward Stuard.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, at Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home, Sharon, Pa. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
