Woman Reunited With Dog Missing 8 Months

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) – A Sparks woman has been reunited with her dog after he'd been missing for eight months and she says the credit goes to a microchip. Juanita Avila says her 3-yearold Chihuahua, Solo, disappeared from her home in May.

On Friday she got a call from Washoe County Regional Animal Services telling her he'd been found near downtown Reno. Avila says her brother persuaded her to get Solo microchipped after he ran away in 2011 on the Fourth of July.

She’s helping local officials spread the word about a campaign aimed at microchipping a minimum of 5,000 pets by January 2014.

Service officials say 400 pets were micro-chipped in the first week of the campaign. A free clinic is planned noon to 4 p. m. Tuesday at the Scolari's in Sun Valley.
