Harold L. Overcash Mercersburg, 81

Harold L. Overcash, 81, Mercersburg, died Saturday January 26, 2013, at the VA Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

Born November 1, 1931, at Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Arthur L. and Anna C. Poe Overcash.

He was a union pipe fitter/ welder working in various states around the country. He retired due to disability in 1981.

He was a member of American Legion Post #517 of Mercersburg, Sideling Hill Sportsman’s Assoc., and FOE of Harrisonville. He was an avid trapper for 60 years. He enjoyed music and played and sang on a radio station in Martinsburg, W.Va., in the 1950s.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are two daughters: Vikki J. Eckstine of Myersville, Md., and Carla D. and husband Jacob Strait of Mercersburg; two sons: Harold E. Overcash of Waynesboro and Darren L. Overcash of Clear Spring; a brother, Robert G. “Sam” and Judy Overcash of St. Thomas; 10 grandchildren; and six great -randchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna L. Bowers Overcash, who died August 13, 1988; a son, Dennis W. Overcash; siblings Richard B. Overcash, C. Russell Overcash and Clarence A. Overcash Sr.; his special companion, Beulah Wibel; and a special nephew, Charles E. Keefer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., January 31, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg, with Pastor Paul A. Martin officiating. Burial will be at Welsh Run Church Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, at the funeral home.
