Raymond Martz Hustontown, 87
Raymond Martz, 87, Hustontown, died at 9:12 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.
Born October 25, 1925, in Dublin Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late John P. and Alice (Kegerreis) Martz. He was married to Laura June “Becky” Newman on September 8, 1945. She survives at their home.
He is survived by four children: Barry Martz and wife Shirley, Chambersburg; Daniel Martz and wife Nancy, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Debbie Haines and husband Ken, Greencastle; and Robin Snyder and husband Randy, Waterfall, Pa.; nine grandchildren: Beth Solesbee, Dr. Lisa Kernan, Lori Frye, Amy Egress, Rikki Ferraro, Dr. Jeremy McGarvey, Jonathan McGarvey, Matthew W. Snyder, and Drew Snyder, along with eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Martz, Hustontown.
A total of 12 brothers and sisters are deceased.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, after 32 years service.
A World War II Army veteran, he served with the Occupation
Force in Japan following the war.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW, McConnellsburg, and also belonged to the American Legion, Mercersburg, the AMVETS, Chambersburg, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a Scoutmaster for Troop 47, Boy Scouts of America, Hustontown, for more than 10 years and was a former member of the IOOF Lodge in Fort Littleton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013, at M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor Richard Bernhard officiated. Interment was in Hustontown Cemetery.
