James William Lewis, 83, Carrollton, Texas, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, in Carrollton, Texas.
He was born January 14, 1930, in Cash, Texas, the son of Ira and Emma Lewis.
He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949.
He served in the United States Navy on the USS Greenwood Destroyer Escort during the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Medal in 2007. He retired from the Carrollton United States Postal Service in 1987 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he pursued his passion of working in nature with plants. He went on to become a Texas certified nursery professional. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His very caring and patient nature will be treasured forever.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Lewis; his mother, Emma Lewis; and brothers: Sherman, Kenneth and Dennis Lewis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delores Kathleen (Kass Cornelius) Lewis, Carrollton, (formerly of Fulton County; daughters: LaDena Bowlin, Carrollton, and Lana Russell, Commerce; a son, Jeffrey Lewis, Carrollton; granddaughter Laci Strange; grandson Matthew Russell; greatgrandchild Bella Strange; brother and wife Melvin and Barbara Lewis, Kopperl; brother and wife Buddy and Carol Lewis, Lewisville; and a sister-in-law, Joella Lewis, Carrollton.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of those who made the life of James special. He had so many fond memories of life and truly enjoyed and loved all his family and friends.
Military burial was held at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, Plano, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.
