Scouts Join In Sandy Relief Efforts

Girl Scout Troop 1597 joined in the relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy. The troop, consisting of five Junior and Cadette Scouts, baked more than 90 dozen Christmas cookies (that’s about 1,200 cookies) and gave them by donation to community members. One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to assist the Jubilee Center, an after-school program in Hoboken, N.J., which lost all their supplies in the aftermath of the hurricane. More than $300 was raised in this outreach event. The troop became connected with the local Girl Scout troop in Hoboken, led by Lisa Cavenaugh, and have become sister troops. It is through Lisa’s efforts to assist their community through Girl Scouts, and an invitation to troop 1597 to join them, that a difference was made.
