Perry County Women Wins Gingersnap Contest

Country whipped her way to
the top in the 3rd Annual
Gingersnap Cookie Contest
on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the
2013 Pennsylvania Farm
Show.
Judges Debbie Bender,
Theresea Conway and Deb
Felik filtered through the 30
entries, narrowing the field
to the top nine. Cookies were
judged on their appearance,
flavor, aroma, texture and
uniformity.
First-place winner Marel
Rauh of Perry Co. was awarded $250, second place and
$100 went to Rachel Logue of
Cumberland Co., third place
and $50 prize was Dorthy
Marten of Lancaster Co.,
fourth place was Floyd Lerew
of York Co., and fifth place
honors went to Belenda Myers of York Co.
Winning Gingersnap
Recipe:
¾ cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup Golden Barrel
Supreme Baking Molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon nutmeg
Preheat oven to 350°F. In
large bowl, mix all ingredients. Chill batter in refrigerator. Roll a spoonful of batter
into a walnut- sized ball.
Place on ungreased cookie
sheet. Bake at 350° F for 8-10
minutes.
