Bedford County Woman Wins First-Ever Fudge Contest

Marian Fields of Bedford County received the firstplace rosette along with $125 and gift bag at the first fudge contest on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Fields out-fudged 22 entries with her Creamy Chocolate Cranberry Fudge recipe. Mrs. Gibble’s Candies and Restaurant sponsored the top-five place winners and also gave out door prizes to exhibitors of the fudge contest.

The judges were Charlie Gerow of Dauphin County, Deb Felak of Dauphin County, and Mrs. Gibble of Franklin County. Judges were looking for smoothness, flavor, texture, appearance and creativity in the entries.

Second place and $125 went to Sally Reinoehl of Schuylkill County. Third place and $25 went to Pam Foor of Bedford County. Fourth place went to Jim Harper of Centre County while fifth place went to Elizabeth Pokrivka of York County.

Creamy Chocolate

Cranberry Fudge:

3 6- ounce packages of

chocolate chips
3 ounces of white chocolate chips
1 jar of marshmallow
crème
1 cup dried cranberries,
chopped
1 cup orange oil
4 ½ cups of sugar
¼ pound of butter
Pinch of salt
Large can of evaporated
milk
Simmer sugar, butter, salt
and evaporated milk for onehalf hour. Cook hard for 5
minutes. Take from fire; beat
in 3-6 ounce packages of
chocolate chips, marshmallow crème, dried cranberries
and orange oil. Beat until
cool. Pour into buttered
molds or pan. Decorate with
white melted chocolate chips
or colors of your choice.
