Forbes Road Passes Act 1 Resolution
The Forbes Road School District began its regular meeting last Monday evening with a 20-minute executive session for personnel reasons and then continued the meeting dealing with an agenda that included a tax resolution, personnel and routine board actions.
Board members approved an Act 1 resolution stating they will not raise taxes during the 2013-14 fiscal year by more than the index of 2.4 percent. Raising taxes by more than the index determined for each school district must have voter approval. On a roll-call vote, the board members favored the resolution with one “no” vote.
The board accepted a bid of $555 from Keith Jones for removal and disposal of an old doublewide classroom, with work to be completed by the end of April, weather permitting. The bid was approved with one board member opposed and one member abstaining.
A motion and a second were made to request that the vo-tech school refund Forbes Roads overpaid contributions in one lump sum immediately. The motion failed on a roll-call vote, with only three members voting in favor and five members opposed.
The board gave unanimous approval of the revised workers’ compensation medical treatment panel and of policies and procedures associated with: employment of superintendent and assistant superintendent, employment contract/board of resolution, and performance assessment of superintendent/assistant superintendent.
A field trip to Shippensburg University on January 30 was approved for junior and senior students to learn about educational opportunities offered at Shippensburg. Also a request was approved for use of the high school gym and cafeteria on March 9, 15 and 16 to hold the Great Cove basketball tournament.
The following personnel agenda items were addressed: The board accepted the resignation of Ned Cromer as elementary boys basketball coach effective immediately; approval was given to appoint Pete Hall as elementary boys basketball coach; to add Tammy Thomas of Hustontown, Erin Lane of McConnellsburg, Daniel Fox of Shade Gap and Angela Bathurst of Altoona to the substitute teacher list; and to add Eugene G. Wertz of Bedford to the Snyder Busing driver list.
During the board’s general information session, reports were given on the vo-tech, on buildings and grounds, on the elementary and high schools and on the district. Reports were given by the principals, building and grounds department and by the school superintendent. Superintendent Loucks distributed handouts to the board regarding security and safety strategies in place at the schools.
The next regular meeting will be held on February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the library at the school.
