Little League Registration Fulton County Little League will hold open registration for the 2013 season at the Little League Clubhouse located at Lions Community Park in Mc- Connellsburg. The dates: Friday, January 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to noon; Friday, February 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, February 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Boys and girls can register for Tee Ball (5-6 years old), Farm League (7-8 years old) and Little League (9-12 years old). Registration fee is $35 first child and $30 for each additional child. First-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration forms are being mailed to Farm League and Little League players who were on teams during the 2012 season. Volleyball Tournament A volleyball tournament will be held January 19 at 9 a.m. at Forbes Road High School gym. Age brackets are 11-15, 16-20 and 21+. Cost is $5 per team member. Team form must be submitted by January 17. Forms are available in the high school office and local businesses. Admittance is $2 per adult and $1 per student. Concessions will be available. Bi-Valley Softball Registration Bi-Valley girls softball registration will be held for girls in grades K-8 at McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends building Thursday, January 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, February 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is $50 for the travel team. Looking to field 12U an 14U travel teams that play in Chambersburg Suburban League. 12U games start near the end of April and run through mid-June. 14U games start near the end of May and run through mid-July. Girls over 12 years old will have to schedule the 14U team and not the local summer league. Registration fee will be $25 for the local summer league (ages under 12). Summer league starts off with a short camp after school is out. Games to start in June.

Sweetheart Ball The 29th annual Sweetheart Ball will be held February 9, 2013, at McConnellsburg American Legion. Tickets are $35 per couple and include a salad and dinner at 6 p.m. and gourmet desserts at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing, live and silent auctions. Hall Walking Hall walking will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the months of January, February and March, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at McConnellsburg High School.

Open Stage There will be an open stage at Hustontown Fire Co. Saturday, January 26, at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. everyone is invited to attend.


Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, classes are held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the alumni building basement in McConnellsburg.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Free Dental Screenings Free dental screenings for ages birth to 18 will be held at Fulton County Partnership Dental Clinic (Overly-Raker building) February 1, 8 and 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Quilt Show Cumberland Valley Relief Center will host a quilt show January 24-26. Thursday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 4225 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg. The show is a great opportunity to view new hand-quilted pieces that have been made in the Cumberland Valley. These quilts will later be auctioned at the PA Relief Sale to be held in Harrisburg at the Farm Show Complex April 5 and 6, 2013. Over 100 hand-quilted pieces will be displayed. Free admission.

Community Victory Garden The Fulton County Master Gardeners would like to invite the public to participate in the second-year community Victory Garden within McConnellsburg Borough held Wednesdays from April to September, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The gardens will be at Second Street behind the McConnellsburg Firehall. There will be a small fee associated with this program: $20 per person or $30 family to defray material costs for the 2013 season. A meeting of those interested will be held to discuss the program. Workshop on Planting Seeds A workshop on planting seeds will be held Saturday, March 9, fom 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., at the first floor of McConnellsburg Firehall. Cost is $10 per person. To reserve a seat call 485-4111. Program presented by Fulton County Master Gardeners.

Pesticide Training Penn State Extension Pesticide Certification Training for private applicators will be held at the following local locations: Huntingdon County – January 31, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Southern Huntingdon High School; Fulton County – February 26, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at McConnellsburg High School cafeteria. History Group To Meet The Bedford County Dutch Corner History Group will meet at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 27, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 741 Messiah Church Road, Bedford. Anyone interested in the history of that area may attend. The group is still seeking photos and additonal information from Dutch Corner, especially of the schools, in preparation for publication of a book. Sportsmen’s League Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery January 18. New officers and board members were elected during the December meeting.

Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, January 19, at 10 a.m., in the community room of Fulton County Library, North First Street, McConnellsburg. Following the business meeting, election of offices and establishing committees, a class will be held on making a sewing case. Items needed for the class are one piece of 4-inch-by- 9-inch wool, one piece of 4-inch-by-9-inch coordinating fabric, 4-inch piece of contrasting wool, needles, thread and scissors.


Potpie Supper Needmore Bible Church will hold a potpie supper January 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., to benefit the Brazilian Mission Team. Potpie Supper Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon will hold its chicken, ham and beef potpie supper Saturday, January 26, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Community Center located at Hawbaker Drive and Mullen Street. Eat in or order carryouts. Adult meals are $7.50. Meals for children ages 7-12 are $5 and under age 7 eat free. The menu includes pepper slaw, applesauce, pickles, cake, punch and coffee. The meal is all-you-can-eat served buffet style.
