Driver Cited In Interstate Crash
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg have cited Kathleen B. Kranyak of Wooster, Ohio, with driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds as a result of a two-vehicle accident along the westbound lanes of Interstate 70.
According to reports, Kranyak, 26, had passed a 2002 Peterbilt 379 driven by Noah D. Hostetler, 41, of Middleburg, Pa., at 8:21 a.m. on December 26 when she lost control of her 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. Kranyak’s car slid into the grass median, back onto the Bethel Township roadway and into the left side of Hostetler’s truck.
Both drivers escaped injury. Hostetler was not wearing a seat belt.
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg responded to a simple assault at 108 North First Street in Mc- Connellsburg Borough on Wednesday, December 26.
Police have accused 25- year-old McConnellsburg resident Derek Ray Long of throwing several items at a 21-year-old woman from Mc- Connellsburg during an argument at 3:49 a.m. Among the items thrown were a large candle, a small wooden shelf and a large wooden hutch. The victim did not suffer any injuries.
Long was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne, who set bail in the case at $15,000.
Police Respond To DUI Crash
A Mapleton Depot, Pa., man is facing charges of driving under-the-influence of alcohol following a collision on Sunday, December 30, in Brush Creek Township.
According to state police reports, 29-year- old Raymond Wishard Miller Jr. was traveling along snow- and ice-covered Piper Road at 10:22 a.m. when he lost control of his 2008 Ford Mustang. The car struck a snow bank and subsequently became disabled. Fischer’s Towing assisted at the scene.
Miller was not wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
In addition to drunk driving, Miller faces charges related to traffic offenses. Charges will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Tamela Bard.
Three troopers from the McConnellsburg state police barracks conducted a traffic safety checkpoint on Monday, December 31. Between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., police stopped 24 vehicles along Fulton Drive and issued nine warnings for observed violations.
Hopewell Woman Accused Of DUI
A Hopewell, Pa., woman is being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop along Lincoln Highway on Monday, December 31. State police said Joudy Ann Lazor, 41, was pulled over for a traffic violation near the intersection of Lincoln Way West in Ayr Township at 11:32 p.m. Charges against Lazor will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
Vehicle Strikes Tree
A Warfordsburg area woman escaped harm when her eastbound 2008 Toyota Rav 4 travelled into a wooded area off Interstate 70 and struck a tree. State police reported 64-year-old Carol E. Layton was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred at 1 a.m. on Monday, December 31, in Brush Creek Township. Layton will be cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
Gun, Computer Stolen
A Gateway computer and a Mossberg 535 12-gauge shotgun were stolen during a recent break-in at an apartment located at 111 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. Additional items taken during the burglary that occurred between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Janu- ary 3, were a Panasonic 35mm digital camera and 30 Xanax pills belonging to a 51-year-old man from Mc- Connellsburg. State police in McConnellsburg investigated a hitand run accident along Waterfall Road on Wednesday, January 2.
Police reported 67-yearold Paul D. Henry of Hustontown was stopped at the intersection of Forbes Trail Road at 4:22 p.m. when he attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Waterfall Road. Henry’s 1998 Subaru Legacy struck the left rear tire of a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier operated by a 16-yearold female from Waterfall.
According to reports, following impact Henry backed up onto Forbes Road Trail and prepared to exchange information with the juvenile driver. However, the girl and her passenger, 19-yearold William J. Hess, of Mercersburg, also observed their own damage but then drove away without speaking with Henry, police said. Henry then drove to the Mc- Connellsburg state police barracks to report the crash.
Henry and his passenger Anna M. Henry, 91, of Mc- Connellsburg, were wearing seat belts and escaped injury as did Hess and the other driver. The female juvenile will be cited for duty to give information.
Driver Cited Following Crash
A 17-year-old Needmore boy faces charges of driving on roadways laned for traffic following a single-vehicle accident over the weekend along Great Cove Road.
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg reported that on Sunday, January 6, the juvenile lost control of his southbound 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE while rounding a left-hand curve in the Belfast Township roadway. The car struck an embankment on the berm and rolled onto its roof at 12:10 p.m.
The driver suffered minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.
A McConnellsburg woman is accused of stealing undergarments from the Family Dollar Store in Mc- Connellsburg on Saturday, December 29.
According to state police reports, 42-year-old Michele Eve Lavoie stole bras, panties and socks from the store located in the Penn’s Village Shopping Center at 9:39 a.m. Lavoie will be charged with retail theft through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
A Needmore woman informed state police investigators numerous items were stolen from her mailbox located at 4152 Black Bear Road in Licking Creek Township. The theft is believed to have occurred between 8 a.m. on December 10 and 5 p.m. on December 15. A vehicle parked at Speigle Motorsports, 536 Poplar Street, McConnellsburg, was damaged between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2. A large front window at McLaughlin’s Drug Store in Penn’s Village Shopping Center, McConnellsburg, was broken at 4 a.m. on Friday, January 4. State police said the unknown individual arrived at the store in a silver sport utility vehicle, which was last seen fleeing the area toward Route 16. Anyone having additional information pertinent to this case should call state police Cpl. Lynn at 717-485- 3131.
An unknown individual veered off Great Cove Road on December 23 and struck a mailbox and a tree just east of the intersection of Sheepskin Hollow Road, state police said. The hitand run vehicle is believed to have fled the crash scene heading north on Great Cove Road.
Woman Accused Of Pulling Hair
McConnellsburg resident Carrie Ann Walls has been accused of grabbing and pulling the hair of a 28-yearold McConnellsburg woman. State police reported the alleged harassment occurred at 228 East Maple Street, McConnellsburg, on Sunday, January 6, at 6:57 p.m. Charges will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
Man Cited For Animal Neglect
A McConnellsburg man was recently cited for animal neglect in connection with an incident involving a puppy. Humane Society Police Officer J. Bliss alleged in reports that Thomas Rexroad left his 6-monthold Jack Russell puppy outside in 30 degree weather with no shelter, food and a only a bowl of frozen water. Charges of alleged animal neglect were filed Friday against Rexroad through the office of Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
Charged In Hit-And-Run
A 22- year- old Mc- Connellsburg man will be charged by state police in connection with a hit-andrun accident that occurred along North Third Street in McConnellsburg Borough.
State police said Loren R. Stains was travelling southbound on January 5 when he lost control of his 2006 Subaru Legacy, which struck a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. Following impact at 2 a.m., Stains allegedly fled the scene continuing southbound. The Traverse reportedly sustained minor damage to its rear end.
DUI Charges Pending
Charges of driving under the influence are pending against a McConnellsburg woman, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg reported.
Police said Bobby Jo Sweeney was involved in a two-vehicle accident on November 24 at 7:35 p.m. at 14300 Buchanan Trail West. The accident in Peters Township involved injuries. Sweeney was found to be driving under the influence at the time, police alleged.
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg and the Fulton County Coroner’s Office investigated a death that occurred at 592 Buchanan Trail, Mc- Connellsburg.
According to state police reports, 65-year-old Roger Dale Mills was found deceased at his Ayr Township residence. He was pronounced dead by Coroner Berley Souders at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, January 7.
Cause of death is currently under investigation. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed the following day at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
