James W. Bivens Orbisonia, 87

James William Bivens, 87, a resident of Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia, and formerly of Six Mile Run, died Saturday, December 15, 2012.

Born March 10, 1925, in Ronco, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Marshall and Ada ( Grove) Bivens. He was united in marriage to the former Betty Jane Defibaugh December 28, 1945, in Cumberland, Md. His wife of 66 years survives.

He is survived by his children: Dianne Strait and her husband, Clyde, McConnellsburg; Sharon J. Dodson, Six Mile Run; Carol White, Tampa, Fla.; Ronald Bivens and his wife, Diane, Saxton; and Debra Croyts and her husband, George, DuBois.

He attended Six Mile Run First Church of God.

He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a private first class until being honorably discharged in 1947.

He was a member of Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Co.

Over the years he was employed as a long-haul truck driver, later worked as a dispatcher for the state police and retired in 1987 as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service after 25 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.

Funeral services were held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 20, at Akers Funeral Chapel, Saxton. Rev. Tim McIntyre officiated. Interment was held privately at Duvall Cemetery.
