Losing Pa. DA Candidate Sues Over Web Site Slams
WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) – A Democrat attorney who lost last year’s election for district attorney is suing the southwestern Pennsylvania county’s former drug task force leader for creating a Web site that criticized the attorney.
The Observer-Reporter of Washington, Pa. says Peters Township attorney David Di- Carlo claims Ronald Levi’s lawsuit defamed him. Among other things, the website had the caption, “I will ignore police corruption” under DiCarlo’s picture and claimed DiCarlo didn’t try any jury trials during his two years as an assistant prosecutor when, DiCarlo says, he had 29 trials.
Levi’s attorney says he hasn’t reviewed the lawsuit, but believes anything posted on the Internet is protected by the First Amendment.
Levi headed the drug task force under former DA Steve Toprani. Levi resigned shortly after Republican Eugene Vittone beat DiCarlo in the election last year.
