Erica Sexton will once again direct this year’s musical “Willy Wonka,” at McConnellsburg High School. Erica is a graduate of Shenandoah University with a bachelor’s degree in costume design. She has worked for the Kennedy Center and is presently employed by the county of Fulton Domestic Relations. Approximately 50 students will grace the stage and entertain their audience with the presentation of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

Having proven itself as a favorite film of children around the world, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” is every bit as entertaining now as it was when originally released in 1971. The world is astounded when Willy Wonka (Larkin Shearer), for years a recluse in his factory, announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory, shows all the secrets of his amazing candy, and one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. No one wants the prize more than young Charlie Buckets (Cody Parson). His mother and father (Grace Youngblood and Brice Feagley) is barely able to support Charlie and his grandparents, Grandma Josephine (Shelby Long), Grandma Georgina (Sar-ah Strait), Grandpa George (Jason Pecho), and Grandpa Joe (Ashton Doyle), the latter to whom Charlie has a special bond. Charlie cannot afford to buy many chocolate bars to find the golden ticket. Four of the tickets are found by: Augustus Goop (Billy Crowder), Vercua Salt (Katelynn

Mellott), Violet Beauregarde (Brandi Welsh) and Mike Teavee (Austin Shelly). But in magical land Charlie and four other spoiled children get a chance of a lifetime and to tour Wonka’s factory.

Other characters include Phineous Trout ( Jessica Miller), Mrs. Gloop (Sara Winegardner), Jamie (DeAnne Dickerson), Matilda (Stephanie Horton), Mrs. Salt (Sarah Hollinshead), Ms. Teavee (Hannah Ott), Mrs. Beauregarde ( Abby Peck), Chorus of Cooks – Haley Garlock, Leah Mellott, Autumn Bailey, Hannah Paylor, Trent Paylor, Lillian Doyle, Sydney Rezzetano and Oompa-Loompa and Squirrels – Kassandra Stermer, Krystal Stermer, Erika Eichelberger, Jonah Peck, Emma Ott, Lynneah Brady, Evan Dickerson, Paige Yeager, Maecy Richards, Emma Hann, Sami Hensley, Damon Knepper, Rebecca Wenschhof, Lakota Elkins, Courtney Seville, Taylor Lake and Isaiah Covert.

State government funding for the arts comes through an annual appropriation by the General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Council for the Arts in Chambersburg. The music department and the musical are looking for a good used practiced piano.
