Ray Steven Hewett, 71, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born November 2, 1941, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Clarence Reed and Nettie Jane Michael Hewett.
He was a member of Love Assembly of God in Berkeley Springs. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a New Orleans Saints fan since the late 1960s.
He was a member of Junior Order U.A.M. Council 117, Alderton-Dawson Post 60 American Legion, and Berkeley Springs Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara E. Moss Hewett; two sons: Jamie Steven Hewett, Strasburg, Va.; and Shannon Reed Hewett, Hancock; four sisters; Ruby Fields, McConnellsburg; Jo Ann Werdebaugh, Summerfield, Fla.; Eva Little, Gladstone, Mich., and Sylvia Johnson of Wells, Mich.; two grandchildren: Koleman Hewett and Karragan Hewett; and seven nephews and three nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Hewett.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 25, at Love Assembly of God, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Dave Kidwell officiated. Burial was in Highland Church Cemetery. Military graveside rites were by Tri- State Honor Guard.
Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs, was in charge of arrangements.
Junior Order Lodge conducted a memorial service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
