Nile E. Calhoun Breezewood, 81
Nile E. “Hot Rod” Calhoun, 81, Breezewood, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Pennknoll Village with his family by his side.
He was born February 12, 1931, in Breezewood, a son of the late Theodore and Nellie (Layton) Calhoun.
On June 27, 1953, in Cumberland, Md., he married Donna Ruth (Leader) Calhoun.
Along with his wife of 59 years, he is survived by children: Theodore M. Calhoun, Breezewood; Jody L. Calhoun, Breezewood; Gladys J., married to Jeff Best, Hopewell; Rick L. Calhoun, Loysburg; Irene D., married to Albert Doyle, McConnellsburg; Neal E. “Beaver” Calhoun, Everett; Linda L. Matters, Everett; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings: Albert Calhoun, married to Ruby, Breezewood; Guy Calhoun, married to Mary, Bedford; Roy Calhoun, married to Olive, Breezewood; Ila Bollman, Breezewood; and his dog “Peanut.”
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald “Zip” Matters.
He was a life member of the Improved Order of Redmen Wambic Tribe Number 507, Everett. He was employed at New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. as a heavy equipment operator for more than 36 years until his retirement in 1999.
Upon retiring, he could always be seen “ tinkering around the house.” In his younger days he enjoyed dancing and swimming. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed watching old westerns. Hot Rod or Sam was a oneof a-kind husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His ornery ways alway kept everyone laughing.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Everett. Pastor H. Lee Ritchey officiated. Burial was held at Union Memorial Cemetery.
