Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

With the running of this past weekend’s World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, there is only one race remaining on the 2012 racing schedule on the East Coast.

Susquehanna Speedway Park will bring the long 2012 season to a close this week- end with the 410 Sprint Fall Showdown, paying $6,000 to win.

Hagerstown Speedway was scheduled to finish off its Brawl in the Fall program this weekend, but the track has decided to postpone the finish of this race until Sunday, March 17, 2013, due to several teams not being able to return after being affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Donny Schatz clinched his fifth career World of Outlaws 410 Sprint car championship at Charlotte, while Darrell Lanigan put a cap on a dominating season on the WoO Late Model tour to clinch that championship.

The Outlaw series will return to the track during the Winternationals in Florida in early 2013.

After all weekly 410 Sprint car tracks across the nation already announced 2013 track tire deals with Hoosier Racing Tire, all eyes were on what the World of Outlaws would do. Despite many rumors that the Outlaws were teaming with American Racer, the series announced that they too will be on Hoosier Tires for the next few seasons. That will continue to make 410 Sprint car racing a level playing field for local drivers who compete with the series during the season. It also brings an end to all of the crying and whining by many in racing about the Goodyear tires. We’ll see how long it takes for those same people to start whining and crying about the Hoosier tires.

That’s it for this weekend. E-mail Bvores@comcast.net.
