Boy, Struck And Killed By Train In Western Pa.

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) – Authorities say a 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a freight train while playing on the tracks in western Pennsylvania.

The accident happened around 6 p. m. Friday in Beaver, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Investigators say the train's conductor blew the whistle, but the boy wasn't able to get out of the way in time.

The Beaver County coroner identified the boy as Joshua Nicol, of Beaver.

Authorities say he was playing with friends at the time of the accident. Deputy Coroner William Pasquale Jr. says the train was approaching the area where the boy was and that the boy was struck when he tried to cross the tracks at the last minute.
