CHART Institute provides SimMan® onsite training to FCMC staff, from left to right, Sally Gresty, Michele Hann, Katherine Penatzer and Vickie Harris. The Fulton County Medical Center Educational Services department is pleased to introduce its newest staff member, SimMan®. Donated from the CHART Institute, FCMC’s liability insurance carrier, this simulator gives the department a big boost in promoting patient safety.

SimMan is the world’s most widely used advanced patient simulator. He has played a significant role in the increase of simulation training as an approach to promote patient safety and help improve patient outcomes.

Simulation has gathered increasing acceptance over the years as an integral part of healthcare training and a fundamental approach to improving patient safety practice. The challenge now for healthcare educators is to make simulation more accessible to the wider healthcare community so that the educational benefits can be realized by the industry at large.

Sally Gresty, clinical education coordinator says, “Increasing the skill level of our staff is one of our top priorities.” She further explains in an analogy, “It’s like whenever the pilot landed the plane in the Hudson River he knew what to do because of his practice on a simulator. The skill level staff will gain because utilizing this simulator is priceless, and we are happy that CHART has given us this grand opportunity we otherwise might not have been able to acquire due to cost constrains.”

“Like FCMC, CHART Institute is committed to making patient safety their number one priority and CHART believes that the Simulation Training Program is a great model to assist teams in striving to achieve improved patient safety, while creating a safe learning environment for the staff at their facilities,” said Melissa Wank-er, CHART Program manager.
