Food Basket Clarifies Role

To The Editor:

The Fulton County Food Basket is currently in the middle of its annual fundraising appeal and the board of directors would like to clarify its role and the partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Harrisburg, Pa.

The local Fulton County Food Basket is a nonprofit human service agency and the direct lead agency for food help in Fulton County. The Food Basket provides food on an emergency basis to those in need who have been referred by other human service agencies and clergy. The Food Basket has a partnership with the Central PA Food Bank in Harrisburg. The Fulton County Food Basket purchases food at low cost from the Central PA Food Bank. In this way the Central PA Food Bank serves as an indirect resource for Fulton County. The Fulton County Food Basket must purchase additional food commodities not available from the Central PA Food Bank inventories to provide a balanced nutritional food package.

We are fortunate to live in a county where businesses and residents so generously support our mission to provide high quality and nutritious food to those who are in need with a program that will not foster dependency.

The Fulton County Food Basket board of directors appreciates the generosity of the businesses and residents across Fulton County. If you would like to make a donation to the Fulton County Food Basket that would be used to feed the hungry in Fulton County, please send your tax-deductible contribution to: Fulton County Food Basket, PO Box 512, Mc- Connellsburg, PA 17233.
