Rick Lafferty’s best-ever season concluded with his third win of the year Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway. Lafferty’s fourth overall win of the year came after race-leader Brian Montieth ran out of fuel on the final lap, turning the lead over to Lafferty to win the 25-lap 410 Sprint car portion of the season, ending Fallfest at the Grove.
Brent Marks, Cory Haas, Logan Schuchart and Lance Dewease were the top five, with sixth-place finisher Greg Hodnett clinching his third straight Speedway Motors 410 Sprint Series championship with two races remaining.
Pat Cannon stormed from his eighth starting spot to score the win in the 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature. Mark Smith, Eric Tomecek, Dale Hammaker and Adrian Shaffer followed in the top five.
Eric Walker led all 20 laps to win the Super Sportsman feature over Scott Dellinger, Mike Enders, 2012 champion Frankie Herr and Rick Barr.
Grant Adams also wired the 20-lap 358 Late Model Main for his first win of the season over Charlie Schaffer, Travis Mease, track champ Gene Knaub and Randy Stoudt.
Mark Pettyjohn’s second win of the year at Winchester Speedway was a big one.
The Maryland racer scored the $8,000 payday in Saturday night’s 50-lap Raye Vest Memorial Late Model feature after leading the final 44 nonstop laps of the event.
His win came over Gregg Satterlee, Jason Covert, Dan Stone and Vest’s longtime driver Rick Eckert.
Covert was the Friday night $3,500 feature winner over Kenny Pettyjoihn, Satterlee, Gary Stuhler and DJ Myers. Frankie Plessinger was 10th Friday night but did not qualify for Saturday night’s main event.
Hagerstown Speedway ends its season this weekend with the Brawl in the Fall, which replaces the former Octoberbest 350. The Late Models, 410 Sprints, big block modifieds and 358 Sprints are on the two day program with heats on Saturday and all features on Sunday.
