Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

The final multi-race weekend for the 2012 is in the books with three different drivers scoring 410 Sprint car wins.

Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, Daryn Pittman stormed from his 10th starting spot to score his first 25-lap 410 Sprint car win of the season. But following a post-race inspection and a check of fuel on various cars, Pittman’s win is unofficial until results from his fuel samples are returned to the speedway within the week. The fuel in Pittman’s car was cloudy, unlike the clear fuel found in the rest of the tested cars. Pittman’s pay was withheld until results are official

Greg Hodnett finished in the runner-up spot over Lance Dewease, Brian Montieth and Ryan Taylor.

Pat Cannon came from his 10th starting spot to win the 358 Sprint car feature and in the process clinched his fifth career Williams Grove track title. Cannon defeated Austin Hogue, Adrian Shaffer, Mark Smith and Jason Shultz for the win, his 14th overall on the season. His title makes him the alltime leader at the track as well.

Greg Hodnett used a last lap pass on race-long leader Mike Wagner to win Saturday’s makeup Labor Day Classic at Port Royal Speedway. After an impressive heat race win, Wagner drew the outside front row for the 30- lap feature and drove a great race before his motor began to stumble in the latter laps of the event.

A Lap-25 restart gave Hodnett the chance he needed, driving from fourth to second in two laps then racing side by side with Wagner for two more laps before taking the lead and the win, his 16th overall on the year.

Wagner settled for a wellearned but disappointing runner-up finish ahead of Pat Cannon, Mark Smith and Blane Heimbach.

Rich Eichelberger won the Super Sportsman feature over Scott Geesey, Rick Barr, Jay Fannasy and Scott Dellinger.

Cory Haas ended the 2012 Lincoln Speedway season with his fourth win in the 25- lap 410 Sprint car feature after coming from the 12th starting spot.

Haas won over Danny Dietrich. Logan Schuchart, Alan Krimes and Brian Montieth.

Niki Young was the 358 Sprint car winner over Tim Berkheimer, Ryan Wilson, Tim Wagaman and Tyler Ross. It was Young’s third win of the year.

Lincoln Speedway will open the 2013 racing season on Saturday, February 23 with the Icebreaker 30 for 410 Sprints.

Williams Grove has its season-ending FallFest features only this Saturday night where the track will also honor its track champions and top-10 drivers before the races.
