Everett Man Cited For Harassment

Everett resident Mark J. Smithmyer Jr., 29, has been charged by state police in McConnellsburg with harassment following an incident at 140 Madeline Drive, Harrisonville. Smithmyer is accused of grabbing and squeezing the arm of a 19- year- old Harrisonville woman on Tuesday, October 9, at 10:11 p.m. The woman reportedly suffered minor bruising and swelling. Charges against Smithmyer will be charged through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Theft From Vehicle Reported

A 24-year-old Chambersburg man reported to state police in McConnellsburg thieves removed several hunting-related items from his vehicle while he was parked in the Buchanan State Forest just north of Skip’s Lane in Todd Township. On Saturday, October 13, between 11 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. thieves stole a compound bow, a muzzleloader and other hunting items. Anyone having further information pertinent to this case should call state police Trooper Doriguzzi at 717- 485-3131.

Harassment Reported

Thirty-four-year-old Mc- Connellsburg resident Richard Douglas Seville is accused of harassment as a result of an alleged incident that occurred at the Cardinal Glenn Apartments.

State police reported Seville went to the apartment of a 44-year-old female approximately 10 times over a three-day period last week. Seville reportedly banged on the woman’s front door and yelled and screamed, police added. He will be charged with harassment through the office of Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.

Local Woman Cited In Franklin County

McConnellsburg resident Molly Berkstresser was cited by Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg for an incident that occurred in Peters Township.

Police alleged Berkstresser was involved in a custody exchange at 99 Path Valley Road on Saturday, October 13, at 11:47 a.m. with a 46- year- old Fort Loudon woman. Berkstresser is accused of knocking the woman’s cellphone from her hand and then striking her in the face. She has been charged with harassment.

Breezewood Man Cited For DUI

Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg arrested a Breezewood man for driving under the influence on Tuesday, October 9. Fortythree year-old Greg F. Dively was initially stopped by troopers for a traffic violation at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Woodlawn Drive at 10:40 p.m. Charges of driving under the influence and various traffic offenses will be filed through Magisterial District Judge Tamela Bard.

Money Found At Rest Area

An undisclosed amount of money was found at the Crystal Spring rest area on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 on September 24 at 6 a.m. Anyone who may have misplaced or lost money at the rest area sometime September 23 or September 24 should contact the state police barracks in McConnellsburg at 717-485-3131. The owner will be required to verify the exact amount of money that was lost and recovered.

Trailer Damaged

An enclosed 1995 Pennstyle trailer was damaged when an unknown individual pounded its sides, leaving dents and several deep scratches in the paint. State police said the mischief at 207 Blacks Mountain Road, Waterfall, occurred between noon on October 6 and 6 p.m. on October 8. Victim is a 39- year- old Needmore man, who estimated the damage at $800. Anyone having further information linked to this case is asked to contact state police Trooper Barnett at 717-485-3131.

Mailboxes Damaged

Two mailboxes located on the 1000 block of Orchard Road in Thompson Township were damaged between 6 p.m. on October 14 and 9 a.m. on October 15. Victims include two Mercersburg area men. Anyone having additional information concerning these cases of criminal mischief is asked to call state police Trooper Bartlett at 717-485-3131.

Hit-And-Run Vehicle Sought

Pennsylvania State Police from the McConnellsburg substation are currently searching for the whereabouts of a vehicle responsible for a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Waterfall and Battle Ridge roads.

Police reported the unknown vehicle turned left onto Waterfall Road on Thursday, October 11, and struck the passenger side of an eastbound 2009 Subaru Impreza driven by Robert L. Watkins, 79, of Robertsdale. The vehicle continued westbound without stopping.

Watkins and his passenger, Jean L. Watkins, 73, also of Robertsdale, were both wearing seat belts and escaped injury during the 8:30 a.m. accident.

Business Accountant Charged

A business accountant from the Spring Run area of neighboring Franklin County is facing additional charges of theft by deception and forgery here in Fulton County.

According to state police reports, 57-year-old Joseph Anthony Runk has been charged through Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne in connection with the incidents that occurred between April 1 and October 28, 2009. Runk is accused of defrauding Fulton Electrical Services LLC of Harrisonville of approximately $7,117.36. An audit was conducted in the case, police said.

Mailbox Damaged

A mailbox located at 2940 Timber Ridge Road, Needmore, was damaged on Wednesday, October 10, state police said. The mailbox has been valued at $35. Anyone with further information concerning this case of mischief is urged to call state police Trooper Watkins at 717-485-3131.

Safety Checkpoint Held

Three troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in McConnellsburg conducted a traffic safety checkpoint along North Clear Ridge Road on Wednesday, October 10. Police stopped 22 vehicles and issued 13 warnings for observed violations between 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
