Melvin E. Hornbaker Mercersburg, 80
Melvin E. “Gene” Hornbaker, 50, Mercersburg, died at 10:10 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born May 31, 1932, at Blairs Valley, he was a son of the late Melvin “Moody” and Mary Pine Hornbaker.
He owned and operated Melvin Hornbaker Logging of Blairs Valley for more than 30 years. He retired in 1994.
He was a life member of Mercersburg Sportsman’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hunting mushrooms.
Surviving are his wife, Alice L. Hensley Hornbaker, whom he married April 7, 1956; a daughter, Alice L., and husband Bill Statler, Williamson; three sons: Paul E. and wife Cindy Hornbaker of McConnellsburg; Gary L. Hornbaker of Chambersburg, and Thomas M. Hornbaker of Kearneysville, W.Va.; four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth Daley, Hagerstown, and Verna Shipley and Edith Etter, both of Lewisberry; two brothers: C. Ray Hornbaker, Mercersburg, and Jacob Hornbaker, Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Blake A. French, and a sister, Dorothy Senseny.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 18, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg. Pastor Floyd E. Meyers will officiate. Burial is at Blairs Valley Church of God Cemetery.
