General Fasteners Co. Announces Opening Of New Facility Here
General Fasteners Co. (GFC), a Michigan-based company that has been providing fasteners, adhesives, hoses, cables and clamps along with an additional 25 plus products as well as processes and materials to manufacturers since 1952, has announced the opening of its new facility in McConnellsburg and an expansion of its Augusta, Ga., facilities.
Paul Ciani, vice president of sales, said, “We are extremely pleased that we have completed our move from our older building and are now serving our customers from our new facilities in McConnellsburg, Pa.,” said Ciani. “Totaling 25,200 square feet, the new building is specifically designed to facilitate our programs to meet and exceed our customers’ ever-growing needs.”
“Additionally,” he said, “we have moved and expanded our Augusta, Ga., facility, adding 11,000 square feet. The new location provides 21,000 square feet that is better suited for our needs and will enhance our customer service. The structure also has room for further expansion as needed, and ensures our ability to support the growth of our customers in the Augusta region.”
In McConnellsburg, GFC is a supplier for JLG Industries Inc. and had been located on Buchanan Trail (Rt. 16) in what is referred to locally as the former “dog bone factory.”
Last year, the company, faced with inadequate warehouse/ distribution space, began initially looking locally for additional space but with no luck. However, Randy and Susan (Garlock) DeShong, Fulton County natives now living in Naples, Fla., were contacted by the local Industrial Development Association (FIDA) because they own 5.3 acres of ground in the business park. At that time, Sue DeShong said, “We’ve owned the lot since 2005 and have always hoped we would get involved in a business of some sort in Fulton County.” That opportunity came in August 2011. The DeShongs agreed to erect a building on Lot 22 and lease it to GFC in what they termed “a win-win situation.”
The building was completed in July 2012 and now General Fasteners occupies the entire building of 25,200 square feet. The facility is a Butler metal building constructed by local contractor DALJCON LLC. It is located in the northeastern corner of the park just off Fulton Drive. Subcontractors for the job were TMS Excavating, Keystone Electric, Woodward Concrete, Walter Swope Masonry, Craig Harmon Plumbing and Pro-Aer Rental.
General Fasteners Co. is a leading-edge systems integrator and pioneer of VMI (vendor managed inventory) programs, managing over 35,000 stocking locations for customers and servicing them from 23 strategically located facilities throughout North America and Asia.
