RELIGION

Catholicism Series A series of one-hour DVD presentations on Catholicism, followed by discussion facilitated by Sister Martha Burbulla, CCW, will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in the social hall. The sessions will be held Mondays, October 15, 22 and 29, at two different times. They are scheduled for the morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and in the evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants may attend either session. Father Robert Barron, a priest and seminary profession from Chicago, is the author and host of this pilgrimage to fascinating spiritual places of faith throughout the world. Sister Martha plans to hold five sessions in October and five in the spring. Catholics who wish to learn more about their faith, persons who are interested in Catholicism or those who are just curious are welcome. There is no charge. Bible Conference Knobsville Church of the Brethren will hold a Bible conference November 11-14, led by Pastor Fred Thomson of Easley, S.C. The conference is entitled “The Joy Robbers: A Study in Philippians.” Conference will be held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and evenings at 7 p.m. All are invited. Need Prayer? Rehoboth New Life will hold prayer outreach along U.S. Route 522 in Needmore Saturday, October 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone needing prayer please stop by. We care. More information available at 717-496-7558.

Revival Revival services will be held October 14-21 at Fort Littleton Bible Church. Sunday service will be at 10:30 a.m. and nightly services at 7 p.m. with Rev. William White and Rev. Ken Ali.

RECREATION

Trunk or Treat Knobsville United Methodist Church will hold a trunk or treat Saturday, October 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the church parking lot. Children will receive candy, hot dogs and other snacks. There is no charge and everyone invited to attend. The church is located on Waterfall Road.

Teen Night Halloween Party Teen night will be held, along with a Halloween party with ghost stories, at McConnellsburg library, Friday, October 26, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Ghost stories told by a professional storyteller. Costumes encouraged. Bring own pumpkin for carving (optional). Free. All teens welcome. Wii, crafts, board games, movies, books and music available. Enter through community room door.

Christmas Bazaar A Christmas bazaar will be held November 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and November 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Fellowship Hall. All kinds of crafts, gift ideas and food. The church is located three miles west of Needmore. More information may be obtained by calling Mary at 573-2567.

Family Place Sessions Family Place sessions will be held at Fulton County Library in McConnellsburg beginning Friday, October 12, at 10 a.m., in the library’s community room. Special guest will be Rosie Klinepeter. Bring baby or toddler to share in the fun.

Old MHS Haunted School Tour McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends will host a tour of the haunted school at the alumni building in McConnellsburg Thursday, October 25, Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come and see what the downstairs is really like. Boro Trick-or-Treat/Parade Thursday, October 25 has been declared as Trick-or-Treat Night in the borough. Children may trick-or-treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at homes where the porch lights are on. The annual Halloween parade will begin at 7 p.m.

Lanterns & Legends Festival A Lanterns and Legends Festival will be held at Cowans Gap State Park October 27, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fall foliage walk will be held at 1 p.m. with activities including pumpkin carving, seed roasting, apple press and hot apple cider. A Legends of Cowans Gap walk will be held at 7 p.m.

Benefit Community Dance McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends will sponsor a benefit dance for Cody Trail. Cody is a junior at MHS and has just recently been diagnoised with a very rare colon cancer. Basketball Registration McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will hold registration for all 4-year-olds through third grade boys and girls who would like to learn how to play basketball Friday, October 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, October 19 and Saturday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the alumni community building. Fall Foliage Hike Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a fall foliage hike Sunday, October 14, at 2 p.m. The hike will start at Cowans Gap, go up to the overlook, continue on to the Knobsville overlook, then return to the lake. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately 3-mile, 2- to 2 1/2-hour hike over gradual mountain terrain. Meet at the parking area at the end of the lake by Pavilion #4 and the large group camping area. The hike will feature the beautiful views of the fall colors. Water provided. SF Musical Advance tickets for the Southern Fulton Junior Senior High School production of the musical “Happy Days” are available by calling the main office at 717-294-3251, Ext. 201, or by visiting Gordon’s Cruise-In in Needmore or Dott Store in Dott, Pa. Student tickets are $3 each and adult tickets are $5. Show dates are Friday, October 19, and Saturday, October 20; both evenings the performances begin at 7 p.m. .and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The tickets are general admission only. Some may be available at the door, but there are no guarantees.

Christmas Dinner Auction Fulton County Community Christian School will host its annual Christmas dinner auction Saturday, November 10, at Needmore Bible Church. A silent auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the traditional auction at 6:30 p.m. Hundreds of items to bid on ranging from handcrafted furniture and crafts to antiques, guns, hunting and fishing gear and supplies, household decorations, framed prints, jewelry and much more. Dinner reservations are required. Tickets may be obtained by calling 717-573-4400 or 717-485-3496. Donations for the silent and/or traditional auctions are being accepted and appreciated. Items may be dropped at the school or arrangements for pickup can be made.

Mic Night will be held at the Warfordsburg Senior Center on Saturday, October 13, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5:00 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Donation is a $1. Everyone is welcome! For more information, call 717-294-6020.

Bus Trip Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 will sponsor a bus trip to New York City Saturday, December 1. The bus departs from McConnellsburg Courthouse at 6 a.m. A stop will be made for breakfast at approximately 8:15 a.m. and arrive in New York City near Macy’s at approximately 11:30 a.m. Depart New York City near 9th Ave., between 44th and 45th streets at 6:15 p.m. A stop will be made halfway home for supper. Estimated arrival back in McConnellsburg is 12:15 a.m. Cost for transportation and a buffet breakfsat is $50 per person. Walk-A-Thon A dyslexia walk-a-thon will be hosted by Scottish Rite Masons October 14, at 1 p.m., starting from the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 2701 North Third Street, Harrisburg. The public is invited to participate. A dyslexia center is located at the cathedral in Harrisburg and is sponsored by the Scottish Rite. For information, call 717-238-8867.

Bloodmobile A blood drive will be held Thursday, October 18, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Presbyterian Faith Center, 12957 Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg.

Pancake Supper A pancake supper will be held at Needmore Firehall Friday, October 12, at 6 p.m., sponsored by Needmore Junior Fire Co. Menu will be pancakes, sausage, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits. Donations accepted.

Spaghetti Dinner An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday, November 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Buck Valley Christian Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, Warfordsburg. Cost is adults $5; children 5-12, $3 and 5 and under are free or whole family for $20. Donations benefit Hagerstown Rescue Mission.

Farm Women’s Day The Fulton County Society of Farm Women will be celebrating Farm Women’s Day with brunch at the Ft. Family Restaurant on Sat. Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend and help celebrate the beginning of The Society of Farm Women in PA.

Election Day Spaghetti Dinner St. Stephen Catholic Church will hold an Election Day spaghetti dinner Tuesday, November 6. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Meatball subs will be available also. Cost is $6 for aduts and children 12 and under are $3. Takeouts available.

Ham & Oyster Supper A ham and oyster supper will be held October 27, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Cove Valley Youth Camp, 5357 Little Cove Road, Mercersburg. Cost for the all-you-can-eat meal is $20 for adults and $5 children 4- 12 years of age. Proceeds benefit the upkeep of the camp and camp ministry.

Pancake Supper Bedford Chapel Church on Rt. 643, 4570 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, will hold an all-youcan eat pancake supper Saturday, October 13, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, buckwheat cakes, sausage, sausage gravy, puddin meat, scrambled eggs, coffee, and juice. Everyone welcome.

Chicken Barbecue Needmore Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Sunday, October 14, at 11 a.m. Menu will be half a chicken, baked beans, applesauce, cake and roll.

Turkey Dinner Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a turkey dinner Sunday, October 28, beginning at 11 a.m. Meals are available to eat in or take out. All proceeds benefit the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co.

FFA Pizza Day Lincoln Way Pizza will hold a 10 percent day October 12 all day. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to McConnellsburg FFA

Republican Fall Dinner The Fulton County Republican Committee will hold its annual fall dinner Friday, October 12, at 6 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall. Adult tickets are $12 and tickets for children between ages 6 and 10 are $6. Children 5 and under eat for free. Please contact a committee member to obtain a ticket.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Veterans Office Closed The Veterans Affairs Office will not be open October 17 due to required annual training.

55-Alive Driving Offer The classroom refresher course for the 55-Alive/Mature Driving will be offered for free to veterans at Warfordsburg Senior Center November 27 and 28. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and two days of classes are required. Preregister either in person or by calling the center. All others can call or mail the check payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member) to Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the 3-year auto insurance discounts. Anyone planning on staying for lunch following the class, please be sure to call 294-6020 one day in advance or when registering. There are no tests involved.

Fulton County Research The Historical Society wants to document craftsmen of the 19th century who made furniture and other items for local households. Some names of workmen are the Bender Brothers and Stoners of McConnellsburg, Will Truax and Joel Palmer of Belfast Township, R. F. Stunkard of Taylor Township, Bancroft Woodcock of Wells Township, Elijah Barton of Brush Creek Township and others. Any family information, old photographs and especially pictures of signed pieces are wanted. The owners may remain anonymous. MEETINGS

Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery on October 19.

Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet Tuesday, October 23, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Fulton County Library community room. Lunch and a silent auction will be held. New members and visitors are welcome. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5736.

Singles Meeting Knobsville Singles will meet Tuesday, October 16, at 9 a.m., at Foot of the Mountain restaurant, Cove Gap. Anyone wanting to carpool should meet at Cherie’s house at 8 a.m.

Red Neck Basket Bingo A Red Neck basket bingo will be held Saturday, November 10, at the Alumni Community Building. Proceeds support the building. Sponsors, baskets, door prizes, silent auction, baked goods, water, soda, Gatorade, hotdogs, barbecues, rolls, candy, nachos and cheese are needed. Doors open at 5:30 and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $ 25 and includes 20 games plus four specials and door prizes. Baskets filled with goodies. There will be a raffle for a gun and one special will be for a fisherman’s combo. King Tut, raffles, jars and 50/50 will be available.

Basket Bingo Forbes Road Class of 2014 will hold a Longaberger basket bingo October 14 at Hustontown Firehall. Large baskets filled with lots of great stuff, along with refreshments (chicken corn soup, baked goods, barbecues, etc.) and tip jars. FULTON FALL FOLK FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES

Breakfast Buffet Cito United Methodist Church will serve a breakfast buffet Saturday, October 20, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Cito Fellowship Hall, 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. The buffet-style breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, chipped beef gravy, toast, orange juice and coffee. No charge. Donations accepted.

HAVFCO FFFF Activities Fulton Fall Folk Festival happenings at Hustontown Firehall are Friday, October 19, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. - roast beef dinner; Saturday, October 20, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. - all-you-can-eat old-fashioned slippery potpie (ham, chicken and beef); Saturday, October 20, 6 p.m. - open stage. Kitchen with regular menu opens at 5 p.m.; Sunday, October 21, 11 a.m. all-you-can-eat smorgasbord featuring six different meats, vegetables, gravies, stuffing, variety of salads, dessert and beverages.

Book Sale/Raffle A book sale and raffle to benefit Fulton County Library and Hustontown Branch Library will be held Friday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All books just $3 per bag. Romances just $1 per box. Raffles include two gun safes and other hunting/ outdoor items.

FFFF Vendors Wanted Vendors are wanted for the Waterfall Fall Folk Festival Saturday, October 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If interested in setting up, please contact Jane at 814-685- 3236 by October 1.

FFFF Fashion Show Not too soon to get your outfit for the Second Time Around Fashion Show in Waterfall, October 20, on the Knepper’s Mill porch at 12:30 p.m. and will include the pet show. Anyone can enter. Complete outfit must come from Second Time Around. Come in now before everything is picked over to get an outfit at no charge and to keep after the contest.

Turkey Supper The annual turkey supper will be held October 19, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street, McConnellsburg. Cost is $10 for adults, $6 for children 6-12 years old and under 6 is free. Carryouts available at rear entrance.

Christian Music Festival A Christian music festival will be held Friday, October 19, at McConnell Park (courthouse lawn), from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Christian artists from Freedom Worship Center, “His” from McConnellsburg UMC, “Justified” from Cito UMC, “One Accord” from Mt. Union and “City Skies” from Martinsburg, W.Va., will be appearing. Prayer and ministry tent will be set up along with free food (pork barbecue, chickrn corn soup), kids games, face painting and more.

Dale Gordon Memorial 5K Run/Walk The Dale Gordon Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be held October 20 in Needmore. Proceeds benefit Fulton County Community Christian School. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. in the square of Needmore. Entry fees are $20 if paid by October 17 and $25 if paid after October 17. Entry fees are nonrefundable. A free T-shirt will be given to all runners/walkers at check-in. The race will be held rain or shine. The award ceremony will be held at the square in Needmore following the race. Receipts will be given for all donations for tax purposes.

Bus Tour Of County And Hancock Area A bus tour will be held October 19, of southern Fulton County and Hancock area. Historic sites included in the tour will be McConnellsburg, White Church and Union Cemetery unique tombstones, Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church, lunch at Weavers, C&O Canal Visitors Center, old National Pike toll house, Fairview one room school and Crystal Spring campground. Other sites will be discussed. Docents will talk at all stops. View the fall foliage by bus. Cost is $70 and $65 for Historical Society members and includes Bollman bus, lunch and all fees and gratuities. Sponsored by Fulton County Historical Society. Chicken Barbecue Knobsville United Methodist Church will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, October 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meals are $10 and include half a chicken, baked potato, baked beans, macaroni salad, applesauce and beverage. Also half a chicken with no sides is also available for $7. Eat in or takeout. Baked goods also available. Chicken prepared by Marty Smith’s BBQ. Museums Open McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will be opening both the McConnellsburg Alumni & Fulton County Sports Museums during Fulton Folk Festival. Hours are Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Memorabilia is still needed. Kitchen Open McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will have their kitchen open this year during the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Hours are Friday - 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Specialty items include apple dumplings, buck eyes, pulled pork sandwiches, ham and bean soup, chicken corn noodle soup, focaccia, various cookies and baked goods.

St. Stephen Food Sale St. Stephen Catholic Church Family Life Committee will have available chicken corn, ham and bean and vegetable soup, kielbasa sandwiches, meatball subs and hotdogs, coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate and soda Saturday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bake sale also.

Chili Fest The Franklin-Fulton Democratic Club will again be holding its annual chili fest during the festival one day only on Saturday, October 20. There will be dozens of kinds of chili by the cup and by the bowl as well as cornbread, cookies, baked goods and coffee starting early in the day and running until it’s all gone. FFFF Food Sale McConnellsburg United Methodit Church festival activities are as follows: Friday - curbside sandwiches, carryout dumplings and chicken corn soup by the bowl starting at 11 a.m.; 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. - enjoy the Christian music festival on the courthouse lawn; Saturday - carryout dumplings or inside dining available for apple dumplings and sandwiches beginning at 8:30 a.m. Visit on the square and enjoy the festival.
