Catholicism Series A series of one-hour DVD presentations on Catholicism, followed by discussion facilitated by Sister Martha Burbulla, CCW, will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in the social hall. The sessions will be held Mondays, October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, at two different times. They are scheduled for the morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and in the evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants may attend either session. Father Robert Barron, a priest and seminary profession from Chicago, is the author and host of this pilgrimage to fascinating spiritual places of faith throughout the world. He arranged with photographers to record the journey and scripted presentation that took about five years to produce 10 episodes. Sister Martha plans to hold five sessions in October and five in the spring. Catholics who wish to learn more about their faith, persons who are interested in Catholicism or those who are just curious are welcome. There is no charge. Special Speaker Bishop Samson D.D. of Miracle Word Ministries, Chennai, India, will be speaking at Rehoboth New Life Sunday, October 7, in the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. Samson oversees more than 3,800 churches throughout Indian, East Africa, Asia and Canada. Pastor Lowell Bard welcomes all to attend these special services with this anointed man of God. Revival Revival services will be held October 14-21 at Fort Littleton Bible Church. Sunday service will be at 10:30 a.m. and nightly services at 7 p.m. with Rev. William White and Rev. Ken Ali.

Contemporary Worship Contemporary worship service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Sunday, October 7, at 11 a.m. Informal service with live modern music and children’s message. Special Services Special services will be held at Jerusalem Christian Church October 2-8 at 7 p.m. nightly. Bishop Samson from India will speak on October 2. Evangelist Philip Johnson from North Carolina will bring the message Wednesday thru Sunday, with special music each night including the Winebrenners, John Topper, Higher Ground, Almost There, Gospel Trails and Scared Stiff. Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Annual Fall Service The Friends of Tonoloway will hold their annual fall service October 7 at historic Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church in Thompson Township, Fulton County. The 2 p.m. service will include an inspirational message by Rev. David E. Ford of the First Baptist Church of Three Springs, Three Springs, Pa.; a cappella chorale singing by the Sharon Singers, a choir of students from the Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute, Harrisonville, Pa.; and congregational hymns. Refreshments will be served in the churchyard following the service. Established in 1752, Tonoloway is Fulton County’s oldest church and is located on Thompson Road (state Route 655) two miles north of Hancock, Md. Friends of Tonoloway is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church.

Bible Study will be held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for the month of October at the Clear Ridge community building. The last Wednesday of the month a free community meal will be served at 6 p.m. with Bible study following at 7 p.m.


Christmas Bazaar A Christmas bazaar will be held November 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and November 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Fall Foliage Hike Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a fall foliage hike Sunday, October 14, at 2 p.m. The hike will start at Cowans Gap, go up to the overlook, continue on to the Knobsville overlook, then return to the lake. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately 3-mile, 2- to 2 1/2-hour hike over gradual mountain terrain. Meet at the parking area at the end of the lake by Pavilion #4 and the large group camping area. The hike will feature the beautiful views of the fall colors. Water provided. SF Musical Advance tickets for the Southern Fulton Junior Senior High School production of the musical “Happy Days” are available by calling the main office at 717-294-3251, Ext. 201, or by visiting Gordon’s Cruise-In in Needmore or Dott Store in Dott, Pa. Student tickets are $3 each and adult tickets are $5. Show dates are Friday, October 19, and Saturday, October 20; both evenings the performances begin at 7 p.m. .and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The tickets are general admission only. Christmas Dinner Auction Fulton County Community Christian School will host its annual Christmas dinner auction Saturday, November 10, at Needmore Bible Church. A silent auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the traditional auction at 6:30 p.m. Hundreds of items to bid on ranging from handcrafted furniture and crafts to antiques, guns, hunting and fishing gear and supplies, household decorations, framed prints, jewelry and much more. Dinner reservations are required. Tickets may be obtained by calling 717-573-4400 or 717-485-3496. Donations for the silent and/or traditional auctions are being accepted and appreciated. Items may be dropped at the school or arrangements for pickup can be made.

Scottish Rite Bingo/Dance Scottish Rite bingo and dance will be held October 12, at 7 p.m., in the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 2701 North Third Street, Harrisburg. Members will conduct a brief business meeting prior to joining the ladies in the ballroom. This is a free membership event.

Walk-A-Thon A dyslexia walk-a-thon will be hosted by Scottish Rite Masons October 14, at 1 p.m., starting from the Scottish Rite Cathedral, 2701 North Third Street, Harrisburg. Steak Dinner & Cash Drawing A steak dinner and cash drawing will be held at Great Cove Golf & Recreation Club, Saturday evening, October 6. Proceeds benefit the golf club and swimming pool. Tickets are $25/person and can be purchased at the Pro Shop or from any club board of director.

Trunk or Treat Knobsville United Methodist Church will hold a trunk or treat Saturday, October 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the church parking lot. Children will receive candy, hot dogs and other snacks. There is no charge and everyone invited to attend. The church is located on Waterfall Road.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Spaghetti Dinner An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday, November 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at buck Valley Christian Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, Warfordsburg. Cost is adults $5; children 5-12, and 5 and under are free or whole family for $20. Donations benefit Hagerstown Rescue Mission.

Farm Women’s Day The Fulton County Society of Farm Women will be celebrating Farm Women’s Day with brunch at The Ft. Family Restaurant on Sat. Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend and help celebrate the beginning of The Society of Farm Women in PA.

Pancake Supper Bedford Chapel Church on Rt. 643, 4570 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, will hold an all-youcan eat pancake supper Saturday, October 13, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, buckwheat cakes, sausage, sausage gravy, puddin meat, scrambled eggs, coffee, and juice. Free Meal A free meal will be held October 9 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 7404 Lincoln Highway, Harrisonville. Pasta, salad, beverage and dessert served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. All are welcome.

Pork & Sauerkraut Supper A pork and sauerkraut supper will be held Saturday, October 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Fort Loudon Community Center. The buffet style allyou care-to-eat menu will consist of pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, peas, applesauce, cake, rolls, coffee, water and punch. The price for adult meals is $6; children 7-12, $4; under 7 free. Meal can be eaten in or carried out. The dinner is sponsored by Trinity United Church of Christ. The center is located between Hawbaker Drive and Mullen St.

Republican Fall Dinner The Fulton County Republican Committee will hold its annual fall dinner Friday, October 12, at 6 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall. Adult tickets are $12 and tickets for children between ages 6 and 10 are $6. Children 5 and under eat for free. Please contact a committee member to obtain a ticket.

Cancer Benefit Luncheon The fourth annual Fight Like A Girl cancer benefit luncheon will be held October 6, at Calvary Baptist Church Life Center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and program starts at 11 a.m. A catered lunch will be served. Silent auction items and raffles will be available to raise funds for two local persons with their struggles. This year’s recipients are Dave Welsh and Joan Houck. Tickets are $15 each or $75 for a table (6 seats). Door tickets will be limited so reserve seats now. Chili Cook-off Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church Outreach/ Fellowship Committee is having its first annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, October 6, 2012. The contest will run from noon to 4 p.m. and will be held at 12941 Buck Valley Road in Warfordsburg. Live entertainment will be provided by Kristin Palmer -n- the Holler from 1-3 p.m. Berkeley Radio Station WDHC 93.5 will be broadcasting from 12-2 p.m. Door prizes will be drawn all day. No admission fee. Donations will be accepted. Come taste and then vote for your favorite chili.

A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Fulton County Research The Historical Society wants to document craftsmen of the 19th century who made furniture and other items for local households. Some names of workmen are the Bender Brothers and Stoners of McConnellsburg, Will Truax and Joel Palmer of Belfast Township, R. F. Stunkard of Taylor Township, Bancroft Woodcock of Wells Township, Elijah Barton of Brush Creek Township and others. Any family information, old photographs and especially pictures of signed pieces are wanted. The owners may remain anonymous. Dale Gordon Memorial 5K Run/Walk The Dale Gordon Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be held October 20 in Needmore. Proceeds benefit Fulton County Community Christian School. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. in the square of Needmore. Entry fees are $20 if paid by October 17 and $25 if paid after October 17. Entry fees are nonrefundable. A free T-shirt will be given to all runners/walkers at check-in. The race will be held rain or shine. The award ceremony will be held at the square in Needmore following the race. Bus Tour Of County And Hancock Area A bus tour will be held October 19, of southern Fulton County and Hancock area. Historic sites included in the tour will be McConnellsburg, White Church and Union Cemetery unique tombstones, Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church, lunch at Weavers, C&O Canal Visitors Center, old National Pike toll house, Fairview one room school and Crystal Spring campground. Others sites will be discussed. Docents will talk at all stops. View the fall foliage by bus. Chicken Barbeque Knobsville United Methodist Church will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, October 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meals are $10 and include half a chicken, baked potato, baked beans, macaroni salad, applesauce and beverage.
