Western Pa. Church Celebrates 240th Anniversary
CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. (AP) – A Presbyterian congregation has celebrated its 240th anniversary in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church was formed in 1772, before the Revolutionary War, and has been housed in the same building since 1897.
Eighty-six-year-old Sara Evelyn Gilsan played the organ for Sunday’s services. She’s been attending the church since she was 3 years old. She’s taught Sunday school for 50 years and been the organist since 1959.
More than 150 people attended Sunday’s anniversary service in Dunbar Township, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
