Spade Competes At National Competition

Between July 19 and July 22, 2012, Madison Spade, daughter of Jamie and Petina Spade, competed at the national competition for the Turn It Up Dance Team. It was held in Ocean City, Md.

Maddie was selected in December to be a part of the 2012 Junior National Dance Team. The junior team consisted of 47 dancers, and on the first day of the competition, Maddie was selected to dance in the front row. While there, she also had the opportunity to work with Lil C and Jordan Casanova from “ So You Think You Can Dance.” She also worked with Chloe Arnold, a tap professional from New York City and the co-producer of the D.C. Tap Festival.

Dance team classes began each morning at 8 a.m. The competitions were then held in the evenings. Maddie performed a solo to “Cooties” in the jazz category. She received gold and placed sixth in her age group. The entire National Dance Team performed to “Call Me Maybe” Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, Maddie and her dance team from the Shery Foor Dance Studio in Everett performed three routines. They performed a tap routine to “Anything Else But Love.” They ranked high gold and received first place. In their ballet routine, performed to “ Happy- Sad,” the girls ranked gold and received second place. For their final routine in the jazz category, they danced to “It’s Raining Men.” They ranked gold and took fourth place for this performance.

Maddie is thankful for everyone who has supported her. Whether it was through fundraisers, words of encouragement, or donations, her supporters all turned Maddie’s dream into a dream come true.
