Burning Dog Found In Crate Along Philadelphia Area Road

COATESVILLE, Pa. (AP) – Animal welfare officials in suburban Philadelphia are investigating the death of a caged dog found ablaze at the side of a road.

The chief of a Chester County volunteer fire company says he saw what appeared to be a brush fire along Route 82 in Coatesville on Friday night.

Fire crews responded and found a burning dog inside a crate. They worked to extinguish the flames, but the animal died.

Officials say they a necropsy is planned. They don't yet know what breed the dog was

The Chester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is investigating what spokesman Rich Britton calls a “despicable act of animal cruelty.”
