Dolores J. McCarthy Hancock, 79
Born June 8, 1933, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ethel L. Coffman Wink and stepfather Carl Wink and Garfield Shifflet.
She attended Hancock area schools.
She was formerly employed at the Park-n-Dine restaurant in Hancock, as a waitress.
She was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church Hancock, Md. She also attended and was a member of Parkhead United Methodist Church Big Pool, Md., and the ladies aide of the church.
She enjoyed bowling, was an avid gardener and flower gardener, and she enjoyed spending time sitting on the porch.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roy W. McCarthy; two daughters: Gina L. Turner and husband Eddie of Hagerstown, Md.; Kelli L. Shives and husband Doug of Mercersburg; two sons: Michael L. McCarthy Sr. of Hancock and fiancée’ Jan Bowers of Frederick, Md., and Rodney L. Mc- Carthy and wife Barb, Clear Spring, Md.; two sisters: Mary E. “Libby” Keefer of Falling Waters, W.Va.; Donna Semler of Hagerstown; one brother, William Shifflet, and wife Judy of Hancock; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one half-brother, Garfield “Sonny” Shifflet Jr.
Service will be held Thursday September 20, at 11 a.m., at Parkhead United Metho-dist Church. Pastor Scott Summers and Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hag-erstown.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For convenience of family and friends the funeral home will be open noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Parkhead U.M. Church Building Fund, c/o Pastor Scott Summers, 11404 Tedrick Drive, Big pool, MD 21711. Also flowers will be accepted.
