Alberta I. Whitfield Crystal Spring, 86

Alberta I. “Bertie” Whitfield, 86, Crystal Spring, died Thursday, September 6, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born December 21, 1925, at the family farm in Piney Creek, the daughter of the late Albert and Ada (Blankley) Shopley.

On February 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Whitfield Jr. They celebrated 50 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1995.

She is survived by four children: Roger Whitfield, Crystal Spring; Carol, married to Richard Sparks, Everett; Robert Whitfield, Crystal Spring; David Whitfield, Crystal Spring; two grandsons: Brian and Bradley Sparks; two great-grandchildren: Owen and Ali Sparks; twin sister Roberta Burkett, Everett; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Howard and Alvin Shipley.

She was employed at Best Western, formerly Morral’s Motor Lodge in Breezewood, for more than 20 years until her retirement.

She was a kind and caring person who would have invite a stranger to her table for a meal. She enjoyed baking bread, pies and cinnamon rolls. She especially loved spending time outdoors, working in her flower gardens accompanied by her dog and cats.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 8, at noon, in the chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Everett. Pastor Becky Clark officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mattie.
