Local law enforcement officials and emergency responders swarmed Meadow Grounds Lake Monday morning following reports of a body found near the water’s edge.

Pennsylvania State Police investigator Trooper Richard Cutchall of the McConnellsburg substation arrived at the scene at the main boat launch on September 10 along with representatives from the county coroner’s office, Pennsylvania Game Commission and McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., which included both fire police and medics.

Police were able to identify the man as 62-year-old Dennis L. Keith. Keith had relocated to Three Springs after having previously resided in the McVeytown area.

Fulton County Coroner Berley Souders told the “News” Keith was found by two fishermen as they prepared to launch their boat at 7:45 a.m. Souders pronounced Keith dead at 8:30 a.m. from massive blunt force trauma to both the head and chest. The trauma was a result of self-inflected gunshot wounds, he said.

Souders said looking at the forensic condition of Keith’s body, it was believed the suicide could have occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Keith was a native of Huntingdon County having called Saltillo his homeplace. Referred to as “Peachy” by his friends and classmates, Keith was a 1968 graduate of Southern Huntingdon School District.
