Outdoor Gospel Sing An outdoor gospel sing will be held at Knobsville Church of the Brethren Saturday, September 8, at 5 p.m. Several local groups will present music and light refreshments will be served. Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Annual Fall Service The Friends of Tonoloway will hold their annual fall service October 7 at historic Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church in Thompson Township, Fulton County. The 2 p.m. service will include an inspirational message by Rev. David E. Ford of the First Baptist Church of Three Springs, Three Springs, Pa.; a cappella chorale singing by the Sharon Singers, a choir of students from the Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute, Harrisonville, Pa.; and congregational hymns. Refreshments will be served in the churchyard following the service. Established in 1752, Tonoloway is Fulton County’s oldest church and is located on Thompson Road (state Route 655) two miles north of Hancock, Md. Friends of Tonoloway is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church.

Presbyterian Church Fall Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning Sunday, September 9, with youth program in sanctuary, 10:30 a.m. – the Gathering; worship starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 16: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. – rally day; combined opening in sanctuary, 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. breakfast, worship at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 23: regular Sunday school classes resume. Fall Revival Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown, will hold fall revival meetings with evangelist Tim Thompson September 16-21. The meetings will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 16, and will be held each evening at 7 p.m., with Friday, September 21, being the last service. Festival A festival will be held at Buck Valley Park September 15 at 5 p.m. Music by Rusty McCumbee and Morgan County Line.

Back-To-School Dance The McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Association will sponsor a back-to-school dance for all ages Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the alumni gym in McConnellsburg. Help is needed. Questions please call Kathy Kendall at 485-0221 or 377-3643.

Spartan Volleyball Tournament The 23rd annual MHS Lady Spartan Volleyball Tournament will be held Saturday, September 8. The tournament will feature five teams playing in one pool. Schools entered are Bedford, Broadfording Academy, James Buchanan, Shippensburg and host McConnellsburg. Tournament pool play begins at 9 a.m. in the Mc- Connellsburg High School gym. The championship is scheduled to start at approximately 4:30 p.m., with the awards presentation to follow immediately. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students for the entire day.

Basket Bingo Forbes Road Class of 2014 will hold a Longaberger basket bingo October 14 at Hustontown Firehall. Large baskets filled with lots of great stuff, along with refreshments (chicken corn soup, baked goods, barbecues, etc.) and tip jars. Doors open at 11 a.m. and 20+ games of bingo begin at 1 p.m. See any class member or call 717-816-3937 for tickets.

Mic Night Mic Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center September 8, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Donation is $1. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 717-294-6020.

Cruise-In For A Cause A cruise-in will be held September 15 at Thomas All Things Automotive from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2012 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County. Food is available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 50 registered vehicles will receive a thankyou gift bag. No alcoholic beverages, please. Not responsible for accidents. Golf Tournament The Fulton County Pony League will sponsor its second annual golf tournament on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Great Cove Golf Course, McConnellsburg. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost will be $50 per golfer. The format will be a 4-person scramble. There will be hole-in-one contest that includes a chance to win a new car and a putting contest for some great prizes. Cutoff date for entering a team is September 5. Maximum teams allowed will be 23. Tournament and contest sponsors are still available. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. FR/ Hustontown Alumni Banquet The Hustontown/ Forbes Road Alumni banquet will be held October 6 at Hustontown Firehall. Doors open at 4 p.m. for those who want to come early and visit with friends. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. A donation of $9 will be collected for each person attending. Everyone who has graduated from either Hustontown High School or Forbes Road High School is invited to attend the banquet. A special invitation is extended to the classes of 1932, 1942, 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012. Make checks payable to Hustontown-Forbes Road Alumni Assoc. Chili Cook-off Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church Outreach/ Fellowship Committee is having its first annual chili cook-off October 6, 2012. The contest will run from noon to 4 p.m. Advanced entry must be received by September 1, 2012. Advanced entry fee is $20 and will be refunded after completion of the event. All entries after September 1, 2012, will be charged $25. Space is limited, so enter early. Everyone is eligible to enter. First prize is $200; second prize- $100; third prize - $50. Singles Picnic Knobsville Singles will hold a picnic at Cowans Gap State Park Monday, September 10, at 11 a.m. Anyone wishing to carpool should meet at Cherie’s house at 10:30 a.m. Bring sandwich, other food will be provided. Bring $1 food item for game.

Autumn Tea Fulton County Historical Social Museum is hosting its annual autumn tea at the Fulton House at 11:30 a.m., September 15. Admission tickets are $9 for adults and $4.50 for children under 12. A light lunch, tea and desserts will be served. Tickets may be purchased from Tickle Your Fancy Teas on West Main Street, Monica at the treasurer’s office or call Ruth at 485-4496.

Ice Cream Festivals Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 8. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be sold. The festivals begin at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Democratic Dinner The fall Democratic dinner will be held Friday, September 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall. (Note the Friday date instead of Saturday). Tickets available at the door or from any committee member.

Spaghetti Meal A free spaghetti meal will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 7404 Lincoln Highway, Harrisonville, September 11. Served will be spaghetti, salad, beverage and dessert from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Food Sale A soup, jelly, pickles, chili and bake sale will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 13-15, at Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg. Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Available will be homemade jelly, jam and pickles, processed vegetable beef, chicken corn, ham and bean soup and chili by the bowl or by the quart. Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.


Hustontown Class Of 1958 Reunion Hustontown High School Class of 1958 will celebrate its 54th graduating class reunion September 8 at Hustontown Firehall at 5 p.m. Please plan to attend. Meal will be served at 6 p.m., buffet style. Cost is $10 per person.

Harr Reunion The descendants of John Harr (1776-1852) will hold its 27th reunion Sunday, September 16, at the VFW picnic grounds in Big Cove Tannery. Each family is asked to bring their own table setting and picnic lunch to be shared at 12:30 p.m.

DeShong Reunion The Harry N. and Arishia DeShong reunion will be held September 16 at the homeplace on Goldie Road. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Bring lawn chairs.

Kuhn/Clevenger/Kendle Reunion The Kuhn/ Clevenger/ Kendle reunion will be held Sunday, September 16, at the Upton Community Center at noon. Bring a covered dish and drinks for family and items for the auction.


Musical Instruments Wanted Southern Fulton Band Boosters are seeking donations of new or used musical instruments for use by beginning band students. Instruments should be in working, playable condition. Instruments or donations for instruments can be dropped off at Southern Fulton High School office. Obama/Ramsburg Campaign Fulton County Democrats will open a campaign headquarters at Democratic Headquarters, 123 South Second Street, McConnellsburg, for Barack Obama for president and Congressional candidate Karen Ramsburg on Saturday, September 8, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Yard signs, bumper stickers and buttons will be available. All supporters are welcome. There will be refreshments and special presentations by Karen Ramsburg and Nate Lerner of the Obama for America organization. Refreshments will include pizza, drinks, snacks.

Farm Women Meeting Fulton County Society of Farm Women will meet Thursday, September 6, at 7 p.m., at the longterm care section of Fulton County Medical Center to play bingo with the residents. Each member is asked to bring a small gift suitable for a man or woman to be used as bingo prizes.

Animal League Meeting Due to Labor Day, the next meeting of the Friends of Better Days Animal League will be held Monday, September 10, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at the BDAL Thrift Store. Please join us to learn more about BDAL, services and upcoming functions. This is a great opportunity to become involved as a volunteer for our community events or thrift store, all benefiting the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected animals.
