Florida Softshell Turtle Found In Central Pa.

LITITZ, Pa. (AP) – A reptile sanctuary is trying to find a home for a Florida softshell turtle that was wandering the streets a central Pennsylvania borough.

Jesse Rothacker of Forgotten Friend sanctuary said the turtle was found Thursday in Lititz (LIT'-its) and had first been spotted in the area a few weeks ago.

Rothacker said someone either lost their pet or decided to release it. But the rubbery shelled turtle would never survive a Pennsylvania winter.

He said if the sanctuary can’t find the owner, they need to find it a new home before temperatures drop because the rescue doesn't have an indoor setup for aquatic turtles.

The turtle has a 10-inch shell and is well over a foot long with neck length. It could double or triple in size as an adult.
