Orren R. Shope Three Springs, 90
Orren R. Shope, 90, Three Springs, died at 12:23 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born January 20, 1922, in Saltillo, he was a son of the late John B. and Pearl (Gress) Shope. He was united in marriage to the former Donna E. Lane April 21, 1947. His wife survives at the Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia.
He is survied by his children, Jeffry Shope, Three Springs; Susan Morgan and her husband, Boyd, Shirleysburg, and Ivy Lee Yohn and her husband, Robert, of Shade Gap; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; siblings: Margaret Hershey, Audrey Hamman and Richard Shope, all of Three Springs; Miriam Nonemaker, Waterfall; and Beverly Laidig, Shippensburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: John B. Shope Jr. and David Shope; and three sisters: Evelyn Shope, Ruth Croyles Seman and Carolyn Chamberlain.
He was a member of Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Shirleysburg.
He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medal and three Bronze Stars.
He had been employed by G.A. & F.C. Wagman Construction Co. as a carpenter for many years, and had previously worked as a coal miner.
He was an avid gardener.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 11, at Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, Shirleysburg. Rev. James Hullihen officiated. Interment was in Saltillo Cemetery.
Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, was in charge of arrangements.
