Steve and Barb Weller will observe their 36th wedding anniversary on August 21.

Bryan and Deb Fletcher celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on August 17.

The heat in the Northeast has set a record with temperatures averaging 49.9 degrees from January to July. Swimming pools have been well used this season. Other hottest years were 1921 and 1936 recorded.

Sid and Lisa McConahy celebrated their third wedding anniversary on August 19.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Bill Erickson of Mercersburg, who passed away last week.

Congratulations to Aaron Olsen and Emile Ott who were married in the Methodist Church in State College on Saturday.

Hanneloe Hann recently had shoulder surgery and is now home recuperating.

Laurel Ridge held its annual festival on Saturday night with good food, including homemade ice cream. The weather was also great, and the festival well attended.

The descendants of the late Wallace and Grace Hershey held their annual reunion on Saturday at Sideling Hill Park.

The United States came out on top at the Summer Olympics held in London. USA had 102 medals: 44 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze.

The annual family reunion of the late Robert and Rebecca Hamil was held on Saturday at the home of Carole Mellott of Cold Spring Road. Family members attended from Camp Hill and Williamsburg, Va., and local members, including Carole’s family.

It Happened This Week: Joseph Lister became the first doctor to use disinfectant during surgery in 1865, proving that killing invisible germs increased patients chances of survival. Although he had nothing to do with the product, the mouthwash Listerine was named for him.

Country Shortcuts: Be- fore putting tin foil over food when baking, spray the bottom side of the foil with nonstick cooking spray. The foil doesn’t stick on food.
