Special Service Corner Independent Church, Big Cove Tannery, will hold a special service on Sunday, August 19. Services begin at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11:10 with Pastor Richard Bernhard. The church is located on Corner Road, 1/2 mile past Fulton County Sportsmen’s League Trout Nursery.

Presbyterian Church Fall Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning Sunday, September 9, with youth program in sanctuary, 10:30 a.m. – the Gathering; worship starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 16: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. – rally day; combined opening in sanctuary, 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. breakfast, worship at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 23: regular Sunday school classes resume. Back-To-School Prayer Night There will be a back-toschool prayer night at Forbes Road High School Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Everyone is invited to participate in a night of worship and prayer. The goal is to cover the school, its board of directors, the students, teachers, administrators and staff with God’s wisdom, protection and grace for the coming school year of 2012-13. If unable to attend, we would appreciate your making not only this evening but the upcoming school year a matter of continual prayer. All are also invited to weekly morning prayer in the high school auditorium beginning on Tuesday, August 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and every Tuesday during the school year.

Jeff Krick In Concert Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor Jeff Krick in concert at Forbes Road High School auditorium September 15 at 7 p.m. The cafeteria opens at 5 p.m. Advanced tickets are $12 and at the door $15. Block Party Rehoboth New Life will host its third annual block party Saturday, September 1, from noon to 4 p.m. at Needmore Firehall. This is a totally free event. Free clothing, free toys, free games and inflatable rides, free food, free drinks and many free giveaways, including bikes and gift cards. Special guests include Seven x Seventy, Scott Deshong and friends and Chad Gordon. Bring lawn chairs and family and enjoy the afternoon.

Cruise-In For A Cause A cruise-in will be held September 15 at Thomas All Things Automotive from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit the 2012 Fight Like A Girl recipients of Fulton County. Food is available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 50 registered vehicles will receive a thankyou gift bag. No alcoholic beverages, please. Not responsible for accidents. Benefit Ride For A Veteran A benefit ride for Roger Sowers will be held Sunday, August 26, raindate September 16, sponsored by Mercersburg Legion Riders Post 517 and Mc- Connellsburg F.O.V.A. Post 655. Cost is $20 per bike. Roger is on dialysis, has had heart surgery and back surgery. Registration will be held at Mercersburg American Legion Post 517 and McConnellsburg F.O.V.A. Post 655 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ride day. Ride will leave Mercersburg Legion at 11:45 a.m. and pick up riders at McConnellsburg F.O.V.A. at 12 noon. All PA ride. Hot sandwiches will be served at the end of the ride at McConnellsburg F.O.V.A. Post 655.

Franklin County Tour The Fulton County Historical Society has a bus tour of historic and scenic sites in Franklin County planned for August 30 leaving McConnellsburg at 8 a.m. The tour will include covered bridges of Franklin County, Cordell flower gardens, Capital Theater backstage tour including the Moller organ, the museum at the Old Jail, the John Brown house and the Letterkenny Chapel built by Italian prisoners of war. The bus, lunch, all fees and gratuities are included in the $70 price. For more information, contact John at 717-328-9279.

Auction/Fundraiser Kindred Spirits will be holding an auction for the Fletcher family Saturday, August 25, at Greenhill Sewing Club. Dinner will be at 5 p.m. and the auction will be at 6 p.m. Drop off donated items and baked goods to be sold the day of the sale at the sewing club after 11 a.m.

Hunter Ed Course A hunter, trapper, education course will be held September 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and September 8 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Bring a bag lunch on Saturday. This is the last traditional course for Fulton County in 2012. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Senior Center Social Night On August 31 at Warfordsburg Senior Center social night, the Ah Loe family will perform their “Dances of the Pacific” including their fire dance. Bring a covered dish, meat is furnished. Come dressed in Hawaiian grass skirts, shirts and leis. Meal at 6 p.m. with music from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Seniors 60 and over come and enjoy the evening. Golf Tournament The Fulton County Pony League will sponsor its second annual golf tournament on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Great Cove Golf Course, McConnellsburg. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost will be $50 per golfer. The format will be a 4-person scramble. There will be hole-in-one contests that includes a chance to win a new car and a putting contest for some great prizes. Cut-off date for entering a team is September 5. Maximum teams allowed will be 23. Tournament and contest sponsors are still available. Benefit A benefit will be held for Tyler Elmes at the American Legion picnic grounds Saturday, September 22, to help cover medical expenses resulting from an accident on Memorial Day 2012. Atlantic City Trip Hunters Helping Kids will be having a bus trip to Atlantic City August 18, 2012. Leave Hustontown Firehall at 6:30 a.m., and return around 11 p.m. Try your luck or just catch some rays on the beach or walk the boardwalk and see the sights. Cost is $55 per seat and $22 slot play from Tropicana with a buffet meal included in price. Games going down and back. All proceeds go to Hunters Helping Kids Mason-Dixon Chapter to take local kids outdoors. Call 485- 5529 for more information.

Not Going Back To School Picnic Notice to all school retirees and it doesn’t matter where you worked. All are encouraged to come to the covered dish “I’m Not Going Back To School Picnic” Wednesday, August 22, starting at 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg Lions Club pavilion. Please bring something for the auction. This is used to help raise money to the scholarship fund. A scholarship is given to a deserving senior from one of the county schools who is planning to continue in the field of education.

Path Valley Homecoming The 105th annual Path Valley Picnic and Homecoming will be held August 15-18, at Hammond’s Grove, Route 75, north of Spring Run, sponsored by Fannett-Metal Volunteer Fire Co. Admission and parking are free. Everyone is welcome to attend. The annual parade will be held Thursday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Open Stage An open stage will be held at Hustontown Area Vol. Fire Co. on Saturday, August 25, beginning at 6 p.m. Come and share your talent or enjoy the talent of others. All are welcome.

Peach Festival The second annual Fort Loudon Peach Festival will be held Saturday, August 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Loudon Community Grounds. Breakfast sandwiches, hot food, peach pies, peach cobbler, peach sundaes, peach pie baking and peach pie eating contests and much more will be available. Free admission. Free parking. In the event of rain, the festival will be held in the Freedom Lighthouse on Path Valley Road. The event is sponsored by Trinity United Church of Christ, Fort Loudon.

Art Exhibit An art exhibit will be held again this year in conjunction with the Peach Festival in Fort Loudon Saturday, August 18. Artists are invited to deliver up to four original artworks to the Community Center on Friday, August 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All mediums are welcome, however, do not bring sculpture, prints or photographs. Pictures should be dry, framed and ready to hang with a wire on the back. All entries should have name, address, phone and price attached to the back of the work. Pictures will not be judged, but there will be a People’s Choice Award. There is no entry fee or commission on sales. Donations are welcome. Central PA Relief Auction & Dinner August 17 & 18 at the Ickesburg Fire Company Grounds. Rib Dinner on Friday Night beginning at 5:00 with slide presentation by Christian Aid Ministries at 7:30. Auction Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Selling handmade quilts, crafts, power tools, furniture, pole building and more. Proceeds from this auction will support the people of Haiti and International Crises. FR/ Hustontown Alumni Banquet The Huston- town/Forbes Road Alumni banquet will be held October 6 at Hustontown Firehall. Doors open at 4 p.m. for those who want to come early and visit with friends. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. A donation of $9 will be collected for each person attending. Everyone who has graduated from either Hustontown High School or Forbes Road High School are invited to attend the banquet. A special invitation is extended to the classes of 1932, 1942, 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012. Make checks payable to Hustontown-Forbes Road Alumni Assoc. Ice Cream Festival An ice cream festival (last of the season) will be held Saturday, August 25, at 4 p.m., at Center United Methodist Church Community Building. Turkey dinners will be available with mashed pottaoes, filling, green beans or corn, coleslaw or applesauce and also sandwiches, soup, pie, cake and ice cream. The church is located one-half mile off Rt. 655, five miles north of Hustontown on Dublin Mills Road.

Pig Roast A pig roast will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church August 25. In lieu of musical entertainment, this year there will be an antique show. Cars, tractors, gasoline engine and miscellaneous items. Please come and see what we have on display and enjoy a day of good fellowship and delicious food. Antiques will be on display at 4 p.m., the meal will be served at 5 p.m. Bring family and a covered dish. The roast pig, drinks and place setting swill be provided. Bring lawn chairs. Festival Siloam United Church will hold a festival August 18 at 4 p.m. Served will be sandwiches, soup, pie, homemade ice cream. The church is located south of Harrisonville on Route 655. Music will be by Country Christians. All are welcome.

Garden Club Picnic North End Garden Club picnic will be held Tuesday, August 28, at 11 a.m., at Cowans Gap State Park. Bring a covered dish and drinks to share. Plates and utensils provided. Ice Cream Festivals Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 8. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be sold. The festivals begin at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

REUNIONS

Kelso Reunion The Kelso reunion will be held at Hustontown Firehall Saturday, August 19. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. Bring a covered dish or two and come and visit relatives.

Infantry Reunion The ninth reunion of the 314th Infantry Regiment will be in Huntingdon Saturday, August 25. The picnic will start at noon and the meal at 3 p.m. The menu will consist of barbecue or plain pulled pork, sliced roast beef, sliced baked ham, macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw and round buns. The dessert will be watermelon. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-16 and free for under 5. A head count is needed before August 10. MHS Class Of 1992 Reunion McConnellsburg High School Class of 1992 will hold a reunion Saturday, August 25, at Great Cove Golf Course at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and a DJ will be spinning some tunes. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Scout Meeting Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the VFW, 518 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age. Bingo Back At Fair There will be bingo games at the Fulton County Fair in the big tent Thursday and Friday nights, August 16 and 17, beginning at 6 p.m. and running until 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Bring “daubers” if you have them. The event is sponsored by the Fulton County Democratic Committee.

McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 1:00 p.m. and doors open at 11:00 a.m. Forty games and meal plus snacks for $25.
