Presbyterian Church Fall Schedule McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church announces its return to a fall schedule beginning Sunday, September 9, with youth program in sanctuary, 10:30 a.m. – the Gathering; worship starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 16: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. – rally day; combined opening in sanctuary, 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. breakfast, worship at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 23: regular Sunday school classes resume. Back-To-School Prayer Night There will be a back-toschool prayer night at Forbes Road High School Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Everyone is invited to participate in a night of worship and prayer. The goal is to cover the school, its board of directors, the students, teachers, administrators and staff with God’s wisdom, protection and grace for the coming school year of 2012-13. If unable to attend, we would appreciate your making not only this evening but the upcoming school year a matter of continual prayer. All are also invited to weekly morning prayer in the high school auditorium beginning on Tuesday, August 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and every Tuesday during the school year.

Youth Rally The SMA Teen Youth Group of McConnellsburg and Cito United Methodist churches invite all to a youth rally on the courthouse lawn Tuesday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m. This is a nondenominational event for all ages to experience Christ-centered worship with Salt-N-Light Youth Ministry Inc. Praise Band, speakers, faith sharing, food and fun. Rain location is the sanctuary of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, 121 North Second Street.

Crystal Spring Camp Meeting Crystal Spring Camp Meeting will be held August 10-19, off I-70, Exit 151, Crystal Spring, follow signs. Activities daily with special nightly services at 7:30 p.m. and singing featuring Rev. Randy Brant, Rev. Dr. Robert Rupp and Eddie Piper. Special Sunday concerts August 12 will be Harmony Hill Singers and August 19 will be Eddie Piper. Both starting at 2:30 p.m.

Eddie Piper In Concert Eddie Piper will appear in concert Sunday, August 19, at 2:30 p.m., at Crystal Spring Camp Meeting. Also see Eddie 7:30 p.m. nightly August 10-19 as song leader.

Youth Camp Fort Littleton Bible Church will host a youth camp for children ages 5-11. Children will arrive Friday, August 10, and stay until Sunday, August 12. Dismissal is at 2 p.m. Children ages 12 and up will be invited to participate in youth camp between Friday, August 10, thru Tuesday, August 14. Dismissal time will be at 11 a.m.

Summer Youth Camp A summer youth camp will be held August 10-14, sponsored by Fort Littleton Bible Church. Check-in is August 10 at 2 p.m. and checkout August 12 at 2 p.m. for ages 5-11; and checkout for ages 10-14 is August 14 at 11 a.m. There will be a $10 registration fee for each camper. Registration forms are available by calling 987-4404 by July 30.

Singing Convention The 37th annual Pennsylvania State Singing Convention will be held August 9-12 at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park in Martinsburg, Pa. Featured will be 150 gospel groups, soloists and duets. More information available by calling 814-695-9356 or at psssc.nb.net.

RECREATION

Football Registration There will be a parent meeting Sunday, August 5, at 6 p.m., at McConnellsburg Lions Park pavillion for all Fulton County Cowboys, parents, players and cheerleaders. Anyone still wanting to register for flag, JV, or varsity football or cheerleading may come to Lions Park starting at 5:30 p.m. Registrations will be accepted until 7 p.m. There will be equipment handout for JV/varsity tackle players at the 6th Street Storage Sheds Saturday, August 4, 10 a.m. to noon; and Sunday, August 5, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Any questions, call Hollie at 717-658-3563.

Mic Night Mic Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center August 11, from 6: p.m. to 9 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Donation is a $1. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 717-294- 6020.

MHS Sports Practices Mandatory sports practices for McConnellsburg High School and McConnellsburg Middle School (7th and 8th grade) students will begin. All interested athletes should report to fall sports practices at the following times: Jr. High Volleyball – August 13-17, 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at elementary gym; Jr. High Coed Soccer – August 21- 24, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at elementary and/or high school soccer field; JV/Varsity Volleyball – August 13- 17, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at high school gymnasium; JV/Varsity Girls Soccer – August 13- 17, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 at high school soccer field; JV/Varsity Boys Soccer – August 13-17, 3:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at high school soccer field.

Jeff Krick In Concert Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor Jeff Krick in concert at Forbes Road High School auditorium September 15 at 7 p.m. The cafeteria opens at 5 p.m. Advanced tickets are $12 and at the door $15. Block Party Rehoboth New Life will host its third annual block party Saturday, September 1, from noon to 4 p.m. at Needmore Firehall. This is a totally free event. Free clothing, free toys, free games and inflatable rides, free food, free drinks and many free giveaways, including bikes and gift cards. Special guests include Seven x Seventy, Scott Deshong and friends and Chad Gordon. Bring lawn chairs and family and enjoy the afternoon.

Car Show A car show will be held to benefit Better Days Animal League, Saturday, August 4, (raindate: Sunday August 5) at the BDAL Thrift Store, 232 Lincoln Way West. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with awards at 3 p.m. Classes as follows: People’s Choice, Participant’s Choice, Best Truck, Best Motorcycle, Best Car 1986 and Newer, Best Car 1985 and Older, Best of Show. Cost is $10 per vehicle, includes dash plaque for first 60 registered. Breakfast and lunch items available for purchase, in addition to snow cones, funnel cakes and baked goods. Benefit Auction/Dance A benefit auction and dance for Dave Welsh and family will be held Saturday, August 11, at McConnellsburg American Legion. Dance will immediately follow the auction. Must be 21 to attend the evening. Doors open at 3 p.m. and auction begins at 5 p.m. Admission is $5. Please buy tickets in advance for there is limited seating. Light refreshments will be served. Franklin County Tour The Fulton County Historical Society has a bus tour of historic and scenic sites in Franklin County planned for August 30 leaving McConnellsburg at 8 a.m. The tour will include covered bridges of Franklin County, Cordell flower gardens, Capital Theater backstage tour including the Moller organ, the museum at the Old Jail, the John Brown house and the Letterkenny Chapel built by Italian prisoners of war. Atlantic City Trip Hunters Helping Kids will be having a bus trip to Atlantic City August 18, 2012. Leave Hustontown Firehall at 6:30 a.m., and return around 11 p.m. Try your luck or just catch some rays on the beach or walk the boardwalk and see the sights. Cost is $55 per seat and $22 slot play from Tropicana with a buffet meal included in price. Games going down and back. All proceeds go to Hunters Helping Kids Mason-Dixon Chapter to take local kids outdoors.

Not Going Back To School Picnic Notice to all school retirees and it doesn’t matter where you worked. All are encouraged to come to the covered dish “I’m Not Going Back To School Picnic” Wednesday, August 22, starting at 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg Lions Club pavilion. Please bring something for the auction. This is used to help raise money to the scholarship fund. A scholarship is given to a deserving senior from one of the county schools who is planning to continue in the field of education.

Knobsville Singles will be meeting on Monday, August 6, at 4 p.m. at Cherie’s house to go on a mystery trip.

Path Valley Homecoming The 105th annual Path Valley Picnic and Homecoming will be held August 15-18, at Hammond’s Grove, Route 75, north of Spring Run, sponsored by Fannett-Metal Volunteer Fire Co. Admission and parking are free. Everyone is welcome to attend. The annual parade will be held Thursday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Flag Football League Forming Hancock Flag Football sign-up will be August 2 and August 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Hancock Community Center. Children entering kindergarten thru second grade are eligible to participate. Registration per child will be $35. Please bring a copy of birth certificate and two proofs of residency. Community Yard Sale Pleasant Grove Christian Church, located 3 miles west of Needmore on Pleasant Grove Rd., will hold a community yard sale on Saturday, August 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Living History At Library Erma Anderson will be at Fulton County Library August 11, at 10 a.m. to talk more about her work and travels. She will share her experiences as an indepent math and science consultant for American International Schools. She also was a former teacher from Southern Fulton High School.

Festival Vendors Wanted Shade Gap Fire Co. Auxiliary will hold an end-of-summer fest Saturday, September 15, and is seeking craft vendors. Applications are available by calling 814-259-3192 or 814-259-3524.

Carwash/Bake Sale Boy Scout Troop 45 is hosting a carwash/ bake sale on Saturday, August 4, from 8 a.m. to noon at All Things Automotive, McConnellsburg.

Fulton County Fair Participants Premium books are no longer being mailed to exhibitors. Please see local businesses to pick up this year’s copy. Rabbit check-in will be Saturday, August 11, at noon. All other entries will be accepted on August 12 and 13 at the fair office. Payment of premiums contingent upon allocation of state fair funds.

Art Exhibit An art exhibit will be held again this year in conjunction with the Peach Festival in Fort Loudon Saturday, August 18. Artists are invited to deliver up to four original artworks to the Community Center on Friday, August 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All mediums are welcome, however, do not bring sculpture, prints or photographs. Pictures should be dry, framed and ready to hang with a wire on the back. All entries should have name, address, phone and price attached to the back of the work. Pictures will not be judged, but there will be a People’s Choice Award. There is no entry fee or commission on sales. Donations are welcome. Ice Cream Festival An ice cream festival (last of the season) will be held Saturday, August 25, at 4 p.m., at Center United Methodist Church Community Building. Turkey dinners will be available with mashed pottaoes, filling, green beans or corn, coleslaw or applesauce and also sandwiches, soup, pie, cake and ice cream. The church is located one-half mile off Rt. 655, five miles north of Husdtontown on Dublin Mills Road.

Festival Siloam United Church will hold a festival August 18 at 4 p.m. Served will be sandwiches, soup, pie, homemade ice cream. The church is located south of Harrisonville on Route 655. Music will be by Country Christians. All are welcome.

Whips Cove Festival Whips Cove Church’s annual festival will be held Saturday, August 4, at 5 p.m. Entertainment will be by The New Connection. Games all ages and homemade food.

Garden Club Picnic North End Garden Club picnic will be held Tuesday, August 28, at 11 a.m., at Cowans Gap State Park. Bring a covered dish and drinks to share. Plates and utensils provided. Festival Laurel Ridge Christian Church of Big Cove Tannery will hold its annual festival Saturday, August 11, at 5 p.m., rain or shine. Plenty of homemade soups and baked goods, barbecues, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, soda and homemade ice cream. Music will be provided by Guilford Station and there will be puppets by Pastor Hamilton and family and other activities for youths. All are invited for a night of good food and fellowship.

Grandma Ann’s Peach Pie Sale St. Stephen’s Family Life Committee is sponsoring a peach pie sale Saturday, August 25. Pies may be picked up after 9 a.m. The cost of the pies are $8 for plain and $9 for crumb topping. To place an order, call 485-5917.

Barbecue Chicken Dinners Knobsville United Methodist Church is selling barbecue chicken dinners Saturday, August 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each dinner is $10 and includes half a barbecue chicken, baked potato, baked beans, macaroni salad, applesauce and beverage. Half a chicken with no sides will be for sale for $7. There will be baked goods for sale. Eat in or take out. The chicken will be prepared on site by Marty Smith’s BBQ from Chambersburg. Ice Cream Festivals Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 8. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be sold. The festivals begin at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Spaghetti Dinner A spaghetti dinner will be held August 4, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at The Orchard Ridge First Chuch of God, Hancock. Freewill donation. Sponsored by the Women’s Ministry. More information, call 301-678-5423.

Chicken BBQ Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church will hold a chicken barbecue August 11, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eat in or carryouts available. Cost is $6 for half a chicken and $8 for the meal. More information may be obtained by calling 294-3028.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Pig Roast Buck Valley Park will hold a pig roast August 11 at 11 a.m. Served will be pork sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, drink and ice cream. There will also be entertainment. All are welcome.

MHS Physicals Fall sports physicals will be offered by Dr. Cohen at McConnellsburg High School Wednesday, August 8, beginning at 9 a.m. in the high school nurse’s office. Cost is $20. Athletes may pick up forms in the high school office prior to or on the day of physicals.

Detox Your Life! Need to Get Healthy? Need to Lose Weight? Join clinical psychologist and wellness coach Dr. Tara Louchery at Fulton County Library Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. She will share tools and strategies for improving your health: body, mind and spirit Healthy refreshments and drinks provided.

MHS Class Of 2007 Reunion The five-year reunion for McConnellsburg High School Class of 2007 will be held August 4 at 3 p.m. at the VFW campgrounds in Big Cove Tannery. Back Run School Reunion Back Run School will hold its 13th annual reunion Saturday, August 4, at the senior citizen building at 100 Woodside Drive, just off Cito Road. Shaw Reunion The annual reunion of the descedants of James and Elizabeth Baird Shaw will be held Sunday, August 5, at Widmeyer Park in Hancock. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Rhodes Reunion The Rhodes family reunion will be held August 5 at the VFW picnic grounds. Lunch will be at noon. Bring a covered dish and a grab bag.

McKee Reunion The annual McKee reunion will be held August 4, at Warfordsburg Community Park, next to the senior center. Eat at approximately 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and an item for the silent auction. Everyone is welcome. There will be games and fun for all.

Fix Reunion The annual Fix reunion will be held at Lions Club Community Park in McConnellsburg Sunday, August 19. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and an item for the white elephant sale.

Miller/Wright Reunion The annual Miller/Wright reunion will be held Sunday, August 12, at 12:30 p.m., at Center Church Community Building. Bring a covered dish, dessert or drink, pictures, writings and memories to share. Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, families and friends are all welcome to come for a fun day.

MEETINGS

Better Days Animal League Meeting The next meeting of the Friends of Better Days Animal League will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., at the BDAL Thrift Store. Please join in to learn more about BDAL, services and upcoming functions. This is a great opportunity to become involved as a volunteer for the community events or thrift store. Anyone interested in providing support to BDAL, Humane Society police officers and improving the lives of all animals in Fulton County is welcome to attend.
