Water Shut Off After Massive Main Broke In Philly
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Crews have shut off water in a Philadelphia neighborhood where a main broke and displaced dozens of families.
Residents near 21st and South streets began reporting water coming up through manholes at around 9 p.m. Sunday. Officials say that about three dozen families have been displaced after water spread for several blocks.
WPVI-TV reports that the main was shut off early Monday.
The fire department brought in boats and other equipment, but officials say most residents were able to evacuate on their own. A shelter has been set up for those who have been forced out of their homes.
Officials say they hope to have people back in their homes as soon as possible. There's no word on what caused the main to break.
