Johnstown May Sell Arena, Ballpark Naming Rights
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) – Johnstown officials are studying whether to sell naming rights to a hockey rink and baseball stadium in the city.
City manager Kristen Denne tells the Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown that discussions are “very exploratory” at this point about whether to sell the rights to Point Stadium or the Cambria County War Memorial.
The stadium is home to an annual amateur baseball tournament, local teams and also local high school football teams. The War Memorial Arena is home to the Johnstown Tomahawks junior hockey team, concerts and a minor indoor football league team.
Denne says any deals that could raise revenues at the facility could help the city avoid tax increases in the future.
The War Memorial board was expected to discuss the idea at a meeting Monday afternoon.
