Francis R. Shives St. Thomas, 85

Francis Robert “Bob” Shives, 85, St. Thomas, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at his residence.

He was born in Needmore August 31, 1926, the son of the late Henry Dayton and Olive B. (DeShong) Shives. He was the husband of Catherine E. (Mellott) Shives, whom he married on June 23, 1951.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, where he served as a deacon.

He worked as a machinist at James River, Chambersburg, before retiring in 1989.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He enjoyed hunting, camping, gardening and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, LaDonna K. Musser, St. Thomas; a son, David R. Shives (husband of Donna) of State Line, Pa.; sisters: Lena Mellott of Sanford, Fla.; Madelyn Lehman of East Peoria, Ill.; and Shirley Walker of Chambersburg; a brother, William N. Shives of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Guy, Gerald and George Shives and an infant sister.

Services were held at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18. Rev. William Swope officiated. Interment was at Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg.

Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, was in charge of arrangements. Military services were by Fulton Honor Guard.
